Omigod the afterpains after #2! OWWWWWW

DD is almost 48hours old. just started latching properly for breastfeeds yesterday arvo but OMIGOD the afterpains. They are as bad as early labour contractions! I was managing on little pain relief and ibuprofen and paracetamol alternately 2hourly isn't cutting it so rang delivery suite who said I could swap to voltarol or co-codamol (that I also had in house)
Just feeding her now and ouchy!

How much longer can I expect them for?

Husband asleep in spare room- trying to decide if would be mean to wake him to get me hot water bottle!?

RubyLovesMayMay I've read this thread and have made a note in my diary to buy some co-codamol. I too am not bothered about giving birth, but am not impressed with these tales of afterpains . I am not ordering any of those.

More stuff they don't tell you about. It gets worse with each successive child cos your body is primed to react to the hormones. Like period cramps from hell every time my third suckled :(

Awful, just toe curlingly awful. Take the cocodamol & defo get a hot water bottle. Sympathies, but also congratulations!

Goes off after about two weeks, and the more you can breastfeed the quicker it will be over, so kinda good for baby too!

Oh god I'd forgotten about these, obviously blanked it from memory - but hell yeah they're hideous!
DS2 home birth minimal gas & air the afterpains had me practically in tears for about a week! But as someone else stated it meant everything was going back to normal, in fact I could feel it all moving :S

Agreed, definitely worse after dd2. I was hooked up to a breast pump continuously (or so it seemed) in hospital chair and it was agony. However, what must it be like after 15 kids!!!!

After my second DC they were awful for about a week and triggered just by looking at her!
