Problems during c section, like SVT?

I have multiple chronic health problems, won't list them all. I also have a spinal cord injury with several fractured vetebrae.
I had an elective c section, and they aimed to try a spinal anathestic first before a general anathestic. Soon after the spinal anathestic was given, my heart rate went up to 200 beats, severe chest pain, pain in left shoulder and tingling in my left arm, boiling hot sweating, felt like i was passing out and couldn't breathe.
Obviously I was in a state and they said my brain wasn't getting enough oxygen because of my heart. If the medication to slow my heart down didn't work they would have to put me asleep and shock me.
Anyone else have this happen to them during a c section?

I would like another child in the future but I'm scared this will happen again.

I did get a pounding heart with ds1, it was really fast, but no chest pains, it was awful actually I too felt like I couldn't breathe. They put all 9lb 10oz of him onto my chest and I think I did yell "get him off me I can't breathe" Blush.

Did they tell you why it happened? No idea about mine, could have been a reaction to the drugs, or maybe some kind of panic attack. If you do get pregnant again, or even before, you could maybe arrange to speak to an anaesthetist, they should be able to advise you. Maybe a general anaesthetic could be an option, if I ever got pg again I would have to have a cs and would opt for the general, it would be a shame not to hear the first cry, but I find the spinal and whole thing pretty traumatic really.

Good luck and congrats on the baby.

I think its important that you get the chance to speak to someone about this, as it could be something called Malignant Hyperthermia, which is a severe reaction to anaesthesia.

If you contact the PALS department of the hospital where you had your baby and ask to be put in touch with the head of midwifery and explain the circumstances. It might take a few weeks to get your notes/organise a meeting etc, but they should be able to help.
