Can you recommend a TENS machine to hire?

Does anyone know if some are better than others and whether this could make any difference? I had a bog standard one for my DD 4 years ago and it drove me insane after a bit (it felt like ants crawling all over my back and had to rip it off!). But I wondered if things had changed/developed a bit since then? All advice welcome! (And wondered if I would feel the same second time around!)

I used this one and found it marvellous
I've just reserved it again for baby number two!

ps I don't know about ants-mine felt like I was being zapped pretty intensely in the back and pushing the button etc was a good distraction for me, in tandem with my self hypnosis!

From what I gather, tens works for some and not for others. My midwife came to marvel with me the next day at my "reliance on homeopathic remedies", so she clearly thought it was a pile of rubbish that I'd tricked myself into thinking was helpful. Give me a placebo over morphine based drugs every time I say!

Elle tens here too! Loved it and used it till I got in the water Smile

I used the Pulsar tens on both labours.

Was bloody fantastic !

I used a labour TENS from Lloyds chemist. Was a third of price of any on Boots. Have nothing to compare it with but it did the trick for me. There isn't much magic in the electronics so I'm not sure why there are such big price differences.

Sadly the midwife didn't understand my joke when I asked if the dial went up to eleven (see the film Spinal Tap)

Elle Tens again. Check ebay too - if you are planning any more DC it makes sense to buy not rent. Make sure it has a boost button for contractions.

Wow I've just had a quick google and there are loads of places that hire these out and at varying prices. Why does everything have to be so bloody complicated :(

I used mama tens and thought it was pretty good. Before DS was born it was £30 ish on amazon so was cheaper than renting one twice. Just checked and they're not that cheap at the moment but maybe keep an eye on the price to see if they come down?

a friend has just offered me hers to borrow (unused and all ready to go) and I've no idea what type it is - just very grateful! WIll report back on the ants...... (love the Spinal Tap thing - bit like a freak lawn-mower accident!)

Have always hired the Boots TENS machine, though having done so 3 times (and planning to again in March) think I would have saved a lot of money if I'd just bought one with DS1 Grin
