EEEK: Induction tomorrow at 36+0. A quick question......

RickGhastley · 09/01/2012 17:52

Found out today that I am being induced with DC2 tomorrow at 36+0 Shock because I have obstetric cholestasis and my bile/liver stats are poor.

The lovely Dr explained what will happen tomorrow but I forgot to ask her about fetal monitoring.

I would love to stay active as this really helped with DC1's birth. Does anyone know whether I will have to have continual fetal monitoring as a result of having the Obstetric Cholestasis, being delivered before term or being induced?

Thanks!

I would personally have it. I had both my DCs induced for obstetric cholestasis, at 37+0. You can detatch the wire from your belt if you want to get up and you can move to a certain extent whilst wearing it all, wire still connected.

I'm not sure but when I was induced with ds and dd I did have fetal monitoring BUT it was at first by the band round the tummy then once I'd dilated a bit by a clip oin the babies head. I wasn't stuck to the bed, I was able to walk round the room and be on all fours etc though.

I think they put the clip on the baby's head when they can't get a good readout from the belt. (?)

Thanks for that, I did not realise you could move a bit whilst being monitored. That will be really helpful.

Try and get your head around the fact it might end in emcs, early inductions don't always go to plan. Good luck and congratulations!

La la la Alpine I am not listening to you [sticks fingers in ears] Smile !!!!!!!!!!

I am going to believe my Dr and midwife who say that inductions for 2nd pregnancies after a 1st vaginal delivery don't usually end in a c section.

My OC expert Dr also says that in her experience ladies with OC tend to deliver quickly.

I think I am deluded!

i was induced at 35 weeks. ended in emcs so just be prepared. i was monitored with the band around the tummy nd was bed bound. wasnt a nice experience but was so worth it in the end

BlueIvy · 09/01/2012 18:34

I had an elective section at 36+5 due to OC. I couldnt be induced as had had a previous emergency section and the risk of scar rupture increases with induction.

It was fine.

Baby was absolutely peachy perfect and weighed a whopping 7 lbs!

And my poor liver recovered within days.

OddBoots · 09/01/2012 18:38

Monitoring is usual when inducing for any reason. To keep as active as possible ask them to try to keep the equipment (monitor and the drip) on the same side of you so you aren't 'pinned'.

greensnail · 09/01/2012 18:39

With my second induction I had a wireless monitor which was great as I could move around freely. For my first one I just had a normal monitor and could manage some different positions so it was ok.

Good luck, hope it goes well for you. Mine were both early inductions for oc as well and managed a normal delivery both times (first one was 36 weeks too).

Thanks for all your reassurance, it's good to hear you and your babies were OK.

I am v impressed with blueivy's 7lb DS, that's a fab weight for a 36 weeker!
