Hi just wanted to know peoples experience of using raspberry leaf tea. I am 36 weeks and would like to try it as my first baby was preterm so ever got a chance to use it.

Does it make your contractions more intense/painful? does it make your labour more effective?

Thanks

Hi, Don't have any scientific back-up.

I drank a lot from about 34 wks last time. I had very strong (painful!) contractions and a 12 hour labour (second stage 20 mins), so for me, absolutely, it did what it was supposed to and I will be drinking it again this time.

ASAIK it doesn't help induce labour early.

I drank 3 cups per day from about 36 weeks with dc1 and had a really fast labour (3 1/2 hours) which sounds great but actually felt really scary and out of control! I have nothing to compare it to but I think it made things much more intense and harder to cope with so I will be avoiding it this time.

I took the capsules from 34 weeks, had a 5 hour labour with a 12 minute second stage. This was my first so nothing to compare it too but I went from 3 to 7 cm in an hour so things progressed quite quickly I think. It was painful and ramped up quickly but I only used tens and entenox so it wasn't that bad!

DS1 12 hours from waters breaking to birth (no raspberry tea). TENS then pool and gas & air
DS2 3 hour labour (with raspberry tea), TENS only. So quick we ended up with an unplanned home birth.

Hardly scientific but the best I can offer!

I drank RLT with DD.

I was induced at 42+1 (I know it's not supposed to induce labour) and had 17 hours of syntocinon contractions (hardly efficient) and then had a PPH and retained placenta at the end due to uterine atony (uterus was too knackered to contract any more)

Second stage was 2 hours, third stage was recorded as something like 2 hours due to manual removal of placenta.

I drank RLT from 36 weeks with my DS. I cup a day for the first few days, then increased to 2, then 3 after I had been drinking it for a week. Ds was born at 37+2. I was 5cm when I arrived at hospital, v manageable contractions. 3 hours later he was born. 2nd stage was very quick.I was fine with it, but the midwife definitely panicked a bit to get things ready! 3rd stage went on forever ending in manual removal under GA. Doubt that is linked though to the RLT.

I took the capsules with ds2 and got induced. But the contractions were totally different compared to the first time and I'll be taking it again when we have dc3. Regular contractions started at 10pm ish so the midwife checked me and I was 6cm a soon as she took her hand out I needed to push and bad. Got whizzed round to delivery and just made it. DS2 came out that quick he was still in his waters Shock. Would recommend anyone use them. Grin

I never used it with 1st baby 8 hr labour from waters breaking , pushing time 50 mins, so tried it with second baby, took capsules and drank tea from about 32 week gradually building up as weeks went on, labour 5hrs from waters breaking but pushing time was 1hr 30 mins! I won't use them again as i thought it would shorten my pushing time , x

I started drinking RLT from about 35 weeks, and I had a very quick and intense first labour.

Will be using it again 2nd time around.

Dozeyland · 12/01/2012 21:55

Oh and my pushing time was 20mins ish
