I am 37.4 weeks with DC3. I have had 3 rounds of intense contractions over the past week which have ceased after I've got into the bath. I had a CS with DC1 and a VBAC with DC2. Has anyone experienced stop start labours and how did you cope with them? Are thru a good thing or just a flipping sore way of reminding you what's to come? Am actually away from home at the moment and don't want this baby to arrive before the weekend.

I was in labour all day on the wednesday with my little boy, which then went off, i then went to bed fine, got up and went all round town buting various things, and only got mild belly pains. I then went into full labour in the early hours of friday morning and had my little boy a 7.32am on the friday morning. On the up side, when he did decide to arrive he done it quickly, there were no complications and i didnt tear or anything. I also had only gas and air and coped with the pain really well. So it is a good thing. My mum was the same with me (and the ambulance didnt arrive in time for me and was on blue lights out and we live about 15minutes away from the hospital she was under).

Main thing is not to worry. Its your body doing the work it needs to do and preparing for birth. x

Previous post is very positive, but on the less optimistic side it can be down to babe being in a non-ideal position & not being able to exert the required pressure on the cervix/pelvis to encourage full-on contractions, but this would usually be later on as babes in non-ideal positions also tend to be overdue for that reason too. This happens most commonly with posterior babies & can result in tired out mums needed syntocinon/assisted delivery/c-section, but of course not always. Your situation doesn't sound like that at all though, unless you know babe is not yet in the most favourable position. They can change position right up & during labour too anyhow.

Thanks Ellenandbump and if it was recent, congratulations! Idlewise, thank you, have a midwife appt on Friday and I'll ask her to check the baby's position. I think it's lying in an odd position and my first 2 were as well so seems likely. Any ideas on how to manouvere them? Thanks so much.
