Has anyone managed skin to skin after a C-section?

Am having a c-section next week and thinking about requesting skin to skin once the baby is born. I had a c-section with DS and remember at the time I felt unable to even hold him due to canulars/bp cuff etc. I held him in one arm whilst DH supported my arm from underneath.

I would really like to try this time, will they put the baby on my chest?

And would it be ok to ask if I can't manage it then baby has skin to skin with DH or is that a bit mad?

Thanks Fraktious, it was one of those events when I am so grateful I had a very experienced MW, obstetrician and ultimately a lot of luck. The obstetrician had a gut feeling beforehand he wanted to monitor this labour very closely (apparently the 4th labour and subsequent labours can have a higher incidence of problems) much to my annoyance ..... On this occasion he was very very right, though the cord did not prolapse when they expected it to (as the waters went), it went much later.

She is a mini of her granny who died many many years ago from BC - I feel maybe she was looking out for her!
