Can your Waters burst out after the baby has been delivered?

I'm sure this happened to me as I had a sudden gush about 3 minutes after the baby was out - It was presumed to be blood loss at the time but thinking about it I think it was my waters?

Probably blood. I had this both times and it was blood. Baby is born in your waters if they haven't broken so they couldn't have been left after the baby was born.

I had this and it was my waters, front waters had gone the week before and back waters gushed out ages after dd was born, I asked what it was at the time and they said it was water.

my waters where not intact that is why they came much later.

Thanks for your replies - had to pop out for a bit. You might not believe this but my ds is actually now 3 but I've been wondering this for a long time Confused. My labour was progressing along and after about 3 hours the midwife asked if she could break my waters - I had no objections and she did it (supposedly) but there was no water, she got a 2nd midwife to check and no water so they seemed to assume that either I didn't have much water or that they'd already come out.

After the delivery there was an overwhelming gush, it went all over the floor and was 'mopped up' with pads which were then weighed to register the 'blood loss'. It was a lot - at least 1200 ml if not more at least 2 pints but may have been 4!
Because of this they wanted to keep me in, in case I needed a transfusion. I was very well in myself and not ill at all. When my community midwife came to visit she was very surprised to note the amount of blood loss and ever since I have been wondering about this - sad I know. But I just wanted to know if it was a) possible, b) common, for the waters to follow the baby - especially as there was a least a few minutes delay?

if they weighed it for blood loss then it would have been blood, your waters are not usually bloody, mine werent even after dd came out, as far as I can remember. I didnt strat to have a little blood untill that evening and that was just like a heavy period.

Thanks Festi - I just thought that it might be a little blood that had mixed in. In that case I feel a bit bionic to have lost all that blood and still feel very well. Xmas Wink
