Best clothing for bf and post-section

Started thinking last night (as you do when RLS keeps you fidgeting round the bed)- baby arrives Monday, by section, and I'm planning to bf. It's bloody freezing, although I'm not planning to go out a great deal.

So, what are your top tips for post-birth clothing? Where does good tops for bf, and what would you wear on your bottom half if you've had a section?
Realised I had lots of jumpers and t-shirts which I think will be useless, and maternity jeans which will rub on the scar.

Any advice gratefully received so that I can do a last-minute shopping session!

Not had a section so can't help you with the scar issue sorry, but for bfing I just used a vest type top, with another over the top. You could wear a cardi too, and then lift one top up and one down, the cardi will mean that nobody will be able to see your boobs from the side. Know I haven't explained it very well, if you post the in bottle & breastfeeding section I'm sure you'll get lots more sense!

Thanks JJJ- I knew there was a bf section somewhere but couldn't find it (not a good night's sleep last night) and was hoping to kill two birds with posting here.

Will re-post there as well... and stock up on vest tops!

I am 7 weeks post C section, and spent much of the first 5 weeks in yoga pants. I have two pairs, fromHush and Gossypium. Obv can't wear ordinary clothes straight away and I found mat clothes impossible - "under bump" = "on the scar" and with "over bump" found that the seam where the big stretchy panel is sewn on also rubbed scar.

here. Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight Xmas Smile.

NewBike that's exactly what I was thinking with the trousers. Thanks for the shop tips, I'll try to get some ordered asap.

Cheers JJJ, have re-posted!

I can't help with the CS part but for feeding I just wore cardigans (or zip up fleeces) and normal vest tops that were quite stretchy.

I had no specific BFing clothes. Grin

I'm 17 weeks in (and still in some of my maternity clothes, as I've eaten too many biscuits!). In the early days you need big knickers two sizes too big (I'm still in these too, they are surprisingly comfy although husband may soon threaten divorce) and I found leggings or over the bump maternity trousers the best things to wear as they gave a little support. My Yoga pants would have been great if they had fitted past my bum! For breastfeeding, I bought a couple of breastfeeding tops from Jjojomamanbebe. I found them useful in the early days when you are feeding all the time and still fumbling around a bit. I now tend to wear an ordinary top with a vest underneath so I can just lift it up.

Now everyone's Xmas presents are here I'll prioritise getting some stuff for me Xmas Smile!

Primark also have a stash of ribbed button down vests in their PJ section (plain so don't look like PJs) which Ive picked up a few of, think £3 a pop.

Meglet · 08/12/2011 20:05

Maternity leggings / track pants are perfect after a cs. I wore maternity combats and jeans for about a month after both my cs's.

You will need big pants that alsmost come up to your belly button. Primark stomach control pants are cheap and big. I also has some of those mesh hospital pants, think you can get them from the jojo catalogue.

For bf I preferred the nursing vests, I find bra's too restrictive. And as they're vests they kept my tummy warm.

I had a c section with my dd and having another in feb. First off wear a nightie as much as you can get away with, a c section is a major op and when people see you dressed they assume you're recovered and can manage.

It'll give you more scope for scar to heal too. Once you are ready to get dressed get tracksuit bottoms/maternity leggings/jersey fabric trousers or yoga pants. I bought cheap bottoms two sizes bigger from primark until i could put maternity over the bump jeans again.

This leads to the breastfeeding bit. Buy cheap cheap vests and then wear baggy tops over them. Pull the top up, vest down. But by going back to over bump trousers you'll cover that post baby c section belly so nothing at all is ever on show. And get massive knickers. More massive than you think. I was an 8-10 so i bought size14. They were no way big enough so i sent mil for size 18. They were mega comfy up under my boobs!!

M&S do great vest tops that have stretchy straps so are good to pull down under another top. I can't link as I'm on my phone, but they are in a 2 pack and £8. I got them after someone linked on here and they are great.

JKSLtd · 08/12/2011 20:37

I've never really got the vest pulling down thing Confused

anyway, i recommend belly bands - or any variation of them - got some cheap ones in Matalan once.
They keep the wobbly bits covered when you lift your top up to feed :)
