It's not been constant but more a few days on a few days off for about the last 7wks. This latest lot started at the weekend and is heavy and fresh. I'm BFing so I don't think it's a period but it could be, but I think that every time IYSWIM.

I asked the GP at 6wks and 8wks, and I asked my HV but I just get a blank look like 'why are you even asking?' and then I feel daft. I really don't think it can be right but maybe it is.

A friend of my DH told him she had the same thing and kept getting fobbed off and it turned out to be the placenta that hadn't come out properly. On my notes it indicates that the placenta broke up so could it be the same thing and will it just come out naturally?

Thanks if you can help, I don't know what else to do if GP won't take me seriously...

You need a scan. If you have retained products it could become infected.

Yep, definitely not right. You need to push for a scan. If it's retained products you should be offered a short op (d&c I think) to remove them. Good luck.

I would go back to your GP and request a scan. I had this with DC1 (natural delivery). Both my GP and OB (was living overseas at the time) weren't worried till past the 8 week mark, then they both said I needed a scan. I had a scan at 10 weeks and a D&C at 12 weeks and bleeding finally stopped at 14 weeks. I had a piece of placenta retained about the size of your pinkie finger and my body had been trying to flush it out. If the blood smells off there is a good chance you have an infection so you need it seen to ASAP. Mine didn't smell just kept bleeding. D&C was over in 15 mins and anaesthatist (? spelling) said I could continue to BF throughout as the levels of drugs given are less than for a c-section. I was home again later that morning and fit to look after DC1 the next day on my own. Hope you get it resolved.
