2 week long period and bad clots 10 weeks after birth? (TMI)

I gave birth to DS 10 weeks ago and started the pill about 5 weeks ago. Stopped taking it around 2 weeks ago as it was making me feel sick, started bleeding the next day and have been bleeding ever since, maybe minus a day a week.

It has been pretty heavy most of the time and I normally don't have periods that last more than 3 days and since yesterday I have been passing clots. Tonight I got a shock as one of these was no smaller than 3 inches in length and maybe an inch wide and seemed to have a sort of skin around it? Confused

I have no idea what is going on and I am having trouble even typing due do dizzyness.

Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?

Ring the Maternity unit and ask their advice but I think they will say A&E - have you kept the clot? If so? I'd take it with you and go to hospital to be sure. Is someone there with you? Someone who can look after DS?

Don't know sorry but I'd be ringing Nhs direct or your local out of hours surgery if you're passing that much blood and feeling dizzy. I'm guessing you are sitting to write this so chances are standing or walking might make you feel worse. You don't want to pass out if you're taking care of your dc - especially if you are carrying them.

Dizzy might be low blood pressure - does lying down help? Think it is too late for pre eclampsia which you can get after giving birth, just much less common, that can make you dizzy and that's high blood pressure.

Is there another adult in the house with you now? Talk to them - wake them up if needs be - and get them to sort out calling your out of hours doctor right now. And to look after you - see if sitting, lying down or standing is best. Or if there isn't anyone then ring the doc and let them know you are alone with a very young baby - then see if they need you to go in (don't even think of driving!) or if you should get someone to be with you to check on you and look after your dc as you don't sound safe to. And have you had enough food, liquid and sleep today? When you speak to the doc ask if you should be eating anything and if so, what.

Ok. Just do it. Right now.
Especially if you have a 10 week old baby to look after.

Hope you're feeling better soon but please don't ignore this!

Oh yes, maternity unit is a much better idea if you can get through to them.

I haven't kept the clot, I didn't even think to at the time.

DP is here to look after him, I think I will make an appt for the GP in the morning, the A+E here will be mobbed tonight and I would probably just be wasting time.

I'm sitting to type and still really dizzy, haven't tried lying down, I think if I did I would just fall asleep.

I've had loads to drink today and had an okay sleep apart from pains in my ribs that woke me up during the night.

how are you doing this morning? Hope you managed to get a gp's appt today.

Didn't see your posts last night but still think you would have been better off at least talking to your maternity unit or local gp to check there was nothing scary going on - sometimes things can happen without you really being aware of it!

I'm waiting on a call back from the GP as the snow here is horrid. :(

Maternity unit wont take anything to do with you past 6 weeks either.

I have no idea what is going on, I managed to soak through a super tampon lying down in a couple of hours and a pad in an hour and a still having clots about 3 inches in length come away. Shock

Thank you for the replies, I was way too dizzy to type very well last night.

When I restarted the pill postnatal (nearly 19months ago mind), about 2weeks into the packet I started bleeding and bleeding for weeks. It gradually got heavier to the point whilst lying down asleep I had a huge gush. Went straight to a&e with blood soaked pjs, had a transvaginal scan to check for retained products, blood tests etc and I got told "this is your first period postnatal, you went back on the pill too soon (gp prescribed it) and this is your bodys way of dealing with the hormones". Thanks nhs. Hello mirena coil. Hope you get seen to soon op. In the meantime maybe get dh to buy some OTC iron supplements

Hey there. :)

I went to the GP's as she said on the phone she wanted to see me and she said I either have a womb infection or likely having a miscarriage...

I had been on the pill but also forgot I had proper flu and D&V with it. She gave me strong antibiotics in case of infection and pills to try and slow the bleeding.

First1 I had been on the implant before and bled for a whole 6 months after I hadn't wanted it and was convinced because she said I wouldn't get any periods at all. Angry When it comes to contraception the NHS are crap. I've felt really pressured to go on contraception since DS was born, they even asked me what contraception I will be using in the labour suite! HV practically forced it down my throat and when I said condoms she said "well that's just not good enough" now thinking about it if I had stuck with the condoms this might not have happened.

Mirena coil is brilliant but it gave me sciatca! I was gutted, I liked that one.

ZipZap My blood pressure was low as well and my heart rate was high.

Also found out that all the pain I had been having down below is caused by the tissue in my vagina has descended and my bladder seems to be hanging down and I can't have it fixed until I have decided I don't want anymore kids. :(

Glad to hear you saw the doc and it's all (sort of) under control - all scary stuff though..

Hope you're feeling better soon, and that the pain goes away too.
