ah the birth mother, the earth mother, we're not worthy Sheila Kitzinger New Pregnancy and Childbirth
and Yehudi Gordon Birth and Beyond
the rest were RUBBISH all of them

motherinferior · 05/01/2006 13:50

Pruni, you're not....?

I had Mizz Kitzinger (from my sister) and no others. Don't really do birth books. First time round was set on the most artificial vaginal birth drugs could provide, and the second time couldn't be arsed with it all either.

[sorry Pruni]

she is a loooon but I think the world is a better place for her IYSWIM

JoolsToo · 05/01/2006 13:54

I preferred to listen to real life stories and even then NOTHING prepares you for your first delivery!

motherinferior · 05/01/2006 13:54

I do think she must have a very odd sex life, if she find birth sexual.

no I didn't pruni I would be interested in that
any chance of a link

elliott · 05/01/2006 13:57

another vote for JB here. Though I was rather put off by the 70s photos - would never have chosen it, luckily a friend forced it upon me!
Are you going to tell us which line, pruni?

SleepyJess · 05/01/2006 13:59

Giving Birth: How it really feels by Sheila Kitzinger. Full of the accounts of real mums.

tonton · 05/01/2006 13:59

The best one I've found is called 'Blooming birth' - terrible name! Not new-agey or anything, just very useful practical advice and info. Cleared up a lot of things for me (2nd timer but had an emCS last time).

can never get links to work! any tips??

georginars · 05/01/2006 14:02

nothing I read helped me on the actual birth, NCT classes were useful though.
I didn't read Sheila Kitzinger because I was too put off about hearing her views on birth as a sexual experience. Over 2 hours to push something that weighs 9lbs 14oz out? Definitely nothing like my sex life
But if she's good maybe I'll read her for the next (ha ha) time

Agree with JT. Nothing I read prepared me for the reality. Best book touching on subject was probably the Kate Figes book.
