Hi this may be a TMI post but need to know, I have piles from previous pregnancy and they have gotten sorer this time but nothing can't cope with however since my body has started to 'clear me out' in preparation (am 38+1) they are feeling pretty sore!
What I want to know is when I'm pushing are they going to be really bad? What can happen to them? Slightly freaked out by the images in my mind of what could happen!! :-/ anyone had this experience??? Cheers :)

Talk to your midwife - you can't be the first person to have had this problem. Some anaesthetic gel as things start to get going, perhaps?

anusol? i had these delights at about 36 weeks but have preety much sorted now with cream. safe in preg and you can buy over the counter, much less Blush

Talk to midwife and/or pharmacist -the creams you can buy over the counter are ok but you may need something stronger - I recall there is stuff behind the desk at pharmacy that has some steroids and is MUCH more effective but it's not avail at the front of the store. Can't recall if ok to use in preg but pretty sure ok to use once you've delivered.
38+1, how exciting. Good luck

From experience (and with the benefit of 20:20 hindsight) I would suggest the following:

  1. During childbirth you need to just forget about them and push out. I didn't for ages, because I was worried/embarrassed (I was kind of pushing sideways) and it just prolonged labour.
  1. Do not suffer in silence. Doc can prescribe better and stronger stuff than OTC remedies which will help shrink them (steroid based creams) and also Movicol (makes poo very soft) which takes the fear out of going.
  1. In all honesty, the birth may aggravate them, but in 2 weeks, you should be back to normal. Mothercare sell an icepack with disposable cotton covers that you can stick in your pants (or could could just use a popsicle in a sock ;-)) but that was helpful too.

HTH

That's all very helpful thanks, I'm fairly lucky at the moment in that it isn't painful to go, it's just they are 'out' more from all the clear outs I'm having in the run up to labour and the thought of what might happen during was freaking me out a bit but you're right, I'll try not to think about them while pushing!!!
Thanks again Smile

I have exactly the same question, so thank you for posting. I've been sleeping like crap for three days, because of piles. No cream helped. GP prescribed me a steroid based cream, which made it even more painful. Now I use preperation H ointment, and works within a day (sold at Boots)

I also try not to think about it during labour. At least you are in the hospital and they probably will have something to reduce the pain or swelling. My GP said they will disappear after birth. Yay!
