Feel a bit strange looking in on this thread...being that I had my last baby (5th) 13 years ago!! - I had four home deliveries - they were all wonderful experiences, and it is so nice to hear you all so looking forward to yours! 0 All the best to each of you - keep us posted!

also ttc #2 at the moment & planning a homebirth for this one. Planned one for #1, but transfered in due to lack of progress .Down as a 'normal' delivery but didn't feel very normal as I'd had an epidural for 10 or so hours & therefore still have no idea what it actaully feels like to give birth - stirrups didn't feel very normal either!!

Taken me a long time (ds is 17 months) to start thinking about ttc & birth again, but starting to look at the sites I used to frequent when planning #1. Homebirth site you've mentioned is very good as are the yahoo email groups on ukhomebirth & midwifery . This site on hypnobirthing might also interest you as might the Association of Radical Midwives site.

Baby dust coming your way!

I am planning my second homebirth in August.

NotAcow · 08/01/2006 13:51

me too.

am finally just starting to get to know some of the names on here (er, there is a brain in there somewhere, its just 'resting' for a while i htink ) and like PPH, Lyra and sweetkitty, i am planning HB in next few weeks. really want it to happen so am desperately inhaling lavender and rubbing clary sage oil on the bump trying to get things going so i dont go overdue and have to be oiked off to hospital (!)

had first two in really lovely midwife led birth unit in N London where i knew they had natural, active birth as much in mind as i did, which was a fantastic luxury and meant i wasnt worried about anything at all. this time, if i go to hosp it will be bloody great maternity NHS thing in Southampton where i fear things like stirrups, forceps and other ghastly instruments may be weilded at me (nooooooo!)

my god, SO sorry to have whittered on and hijacked your thread!

i really need more real life friends to talk to!

I'm planning my second homebirth with baby no. 3 - due end of Feb. I'm hoping it will be a little more straight forward this time - we ran out of G&A at the transition stage last time and I panicked big time! Immediately afterwards and recovery was bliss though compared to my first hospital birth.

LOOMER · 09/01/2006 10:50

I'm planning a homebirth for my first - am 39 weeks today. Have been practising Hypnobirthing, and homebirth just seems to make sense as it ties in so well with the philosophy of Hypnobirthing (natural, mother-led birth in calm and gentle surroundings)...

...blew up our pool at the weekend, and now very excited, everytime I walk past it I want to jump in!

DH was very keen on idea of homebirth from the word go, and my community midwives are also very positive and supportive of homebirths, so I think that helped clinched decision.

Enid · 09/01/2006 10:51

me, in April.

but nervous.

considering going halves on a birthing pool with bf (she is due in feb)

dh not keen.

Flamesparrow · 09/01/2006 10:56

Hosp no 1... homebirth planned for this one (end Feb). Starting to get nervous (and really need to get my house straight... at this rate it'll be in hospital because you can't find a house to birth in ).

I'd have loved a pool, but don't think I can justify the cost Had waterbith in hospital last time, and if I could guarantee the use of the pool then I would probably be changing the plan back to hospital so that I could use it. But, since its a first come first serve thing, guess I'll just go with home and no pool.

RosiePosie · 09/01/2006 11:33

If I had space and money, I might have gone with a pool, but to be honest dh and I decided we couldn't be bothered with the hassle of setting it up either. Everything was cleared away within two minutes last time - just rolled up and put in a bin bag.

Flamesparrow · 09/01/2006 11:46

I think I'm just getting nervous about a non-watery labour. Its weird, I hadn't planned to birth in a pool last time, but now that its all I've known, I'm apprehensive of a lack of water!!!!!

Our bath takes ages to fill, and I know I'll want one after the birth, so I might get DH to fill it with mostly hot water while I'm in labour, and then it will be the right temp when I need it (or I could always call a plumber to fix the water pressure ).

Curlycapers · 09/01/2006 11:55

I'm planning my second home birth for June.(3rd baby) Last time labour was so quick I probably wouldn't have made it to hospital if I'd tried!
It is absolutely wonderful when the midwife (and in my case ambulance crew) leave an hour or so after the birth and you are in your own home with your new little one!

rubles · 09/01/2006 13:37

Flamesparrow, have you seen the pools that are around £50?

Flamesparrow · 09/01/2006 13:58

Money's very tight at the moment, and even £50 seems a lot for something we'll use once...

RosiePosie · 09/01/2006 14:02

Flamesparrow, do you have a shower attachment in your bath? I know it's not the same as a birth pool, but sitting in a bath of water whilst running the shower head over your bump is very soothing.

Flamesparrow · 09/01/2006 14:07

Ooh, good idea!!

bitsamaloney · 09/01/2006 14:08

mumsnetter selling pool for £40

Flamesparrow · 09/01/2006 14:12

Thankyou! Emailing her now. (I have no idea why £40 seems much less than £50 )
