Anyone been really convinced their waters have broken & they haven't?

hi all

On wed night at 36+3 I was walking across the living room when I had masses of water down both trouser legs & puddle on the floor.

Didnt smell of anything & water clear.

Put a huge maternity pad on and around two hours later I felt another gush & the pad was soaked and trousers were too.

As this is baby #4 I thought labour would start as it had before but still nothing so next morning I went in to hospital.

Midwife felt my tummy & said yes waters had broken.

Had to wait from 930 when I arrived till 330 before doctor examined me as they were too busy.

Doctor said she couldn't confirm whether waters had gone as there was no leaking.

Midwives & doctors going to war over me as based on what I said the midwives agreed with me but doc saying I could be mistaken & it could be discharge???

Have to have a scan - which they couldn't fit me in for till 4 today.

So either scan shows waters haven't gone in which case I feel like I'm going insane or I'll be induced this evening..

Help!

Similar happened to me last year! Sat folding clothes in the nursery and gush, huge amounts of water and no smell, the chair was wringing wet too Blush. Saw the midwife that afternoon and she told me that my waters had not gone and I must have wet myself! Shock Anyway come to when i was in labour the doc wanted to break my waters and couldn't find them. I'm convinced that my forewaters had gone.

So how much time between that & labour?

My waters went and horrible midwife at hospital told me categorically that they couldn't possibly have gone because I didn't have ongoing leaking. So she said I must have wet myself Hmm and sent me home.

My contractions started as we left the hospital (so about 2 hours after waters broke) and when I returned later that night it was confirmed that they had gone after all - they think DD's head blocked the cervix so that I didn't get any leakage (or something).

Thanks for that reply!
That has at least made me feel less like a lunatic at least..
Just seems odd that it has now been since 730pm wed and still nothing else happening.

Longest I've been before between waters going & baby arriving is 6 hours!
I can't see them changing their mind later & deciding the waters have gone & I don't fancy being induced but at the same time I know something did happen..

If I did (randomly) wet myself then surely
A- it would smell of wee
B- it wouldn't happen again 2 hours later (when I'd been to the loo in between times about 5 times!)

It was about five days but I can't actually remember properly. (blocked it out I expect)

Well scan shows enough fluid for baby to still be happy & sonographer said I couldve lost some but had a lot to start with.

Either way baby is staying put for now..

They can't tell whether your waters have gone or not unless they actually manage to swab some. All my labours have started with waters going and there really is no mistaking it for anything else.

Labour should start soon and if it doesn't it's probably better if they do induce. Just try not to let them stick their hands up your fanjo too much to avoid infection. I learnt that the hard way last time.

Trust your own instincts and good luck.

girlsayearapart- did they do a doppler blood flow scan on the cord? Did they track the cord to make sure it wasn't looped around somewhere? I only ask because this is what was holding up DD3 and even though I asked for those things (had an inkling) they said nobody was avalaible for the scan, and I turned out to be right.

I was convinced my waters went when already in early labour, went to hospital and was told they hadnt. DS was born 3 hours later, with neither me, my DH or my mum seeing any waters or having any idea when they went

No Doppler. Surely the scan they did would ve shown cord problems though?

My 2nd & 3rd labours both started with waters going so I know what it feels like.. Just feel a bit patronised with the whole 'watery discharge' line the doctors are spinning.

You do not have discharge like that!

As there is enough water there to be well within normal limits they won't induce.

Having reflexology tomorrow though.

Thanks for your replies.
