6weeks post c-section, what exercise can I do?

DD is 6 weeks old tomorrow. She was attempted VBAC which ended in EMCS under GA, also had to have 'an extra 3-4cm of my rectus muscle cut due to high position of bladder'. I get twinges on my left side which I presume is due to this.
Am desperate to start doing some exercise and lose some baby weight/overhang. What can I do and when? Would going to gym be too much? Anyone else have any experience of slightly more extensive incisions and what effect this had?
6 week check on Thursday so going to ask GP then as well.

None. You need to rest and recover.

Maybe do some walking but I would keep a barge pole firmly between you and the gym. You've just had a baby!!!

Even after a straightforward CS it's about 12 weeks I think until you are advised to take up any exercise so with the additional surgery you have had, you really shouldn't do anything more strenuous than a stroll around the park with baby! If it's any consolation, I found my baby weight was still dropping off of it's own accord until about 2-3 months post birth, so no mad rush to go back to the gym.

I was slightly tongue in cheek but seriously, there's no need to leap back into a training regime unless you're a celebrity IMO.

I went to Buggyfit.
They are fine as long as you have had your 6 week checkup and the GP says you're OK. If in doubt, then leave it a while longer. Sounds like you had a bad time of it so I'd wait to start formal exercising if I were you, just go for walks with baby.

Search for a trainer near you (There are several franchises now for post-natal fitness classes which involve you and your baby and a buggy) and then you'll be ready to go when you are healed!

Each person is different and you need to take it slowly and see how your body responds. I had an ELSC and rode 7 weeks after, but took it very very slowly. The first time I just sat on a very quiet horse in walk, then waited 48 hours to see how I would feel but because I had no pain I went on from that. For two weeks I did a little bit 2-3 times a week and by week 9 I started doing a bit more.

I had an emcs 10 weeks ago and had some problems with the wound reopening so a bit of a complication which set recovery back a bit. I had to do a school run from 4 days post emcs so was walking a couple of miles a day from the beginning. At first I was hobbling along leaning on the pushchair but gradually as it got easier I started walking a bit faster. Then walked the long way round, then added an extra loop until I was doing a half hour extra before going to get dd and at a v fast, out of breath pace. At 6 weeks in I started some light resistance/cardio but found I was getting twinges and the odd bit of spotting so stopped for a week or so, then restarted. Am 10 weeks in now and do 3 light workouts a week and fast walk for about 45 minutes a day (proper out of breath, slightly sweaty, red in the face walking).

The absolute key thing is to be checked over by a GP first and always, always, always listen to your body. No sit ups, no running, no core work. But I HAD to get exercising again, I was going spare.
