Birth pool in a box, worth getting?

Hi just after some advice. I am hopefully having a home birth and would like a pool. The community team here do have some that they lend out but as my baby was breech i still haven't been booked for one. Baby has turned and am now seeing MW friday so will hopefully get it organised am 37 weeks.

2 things worry me 1) they will have none left or 2) the last time i had an NHS birth pool it was so horrible it looked like a life boat, bright orange and very smelly i refused to get in i believe the ones they have now are new.

I was thinking however it would be worth getting one i could return unused just in case. Can anyone recommend one are the birth pool in a box ones good? And what should i order as extras? Are they comfortable and worth the money? I have already spent a fortune on classes, therapies and baby stuff and with it being before christmas i don't want to waste any more money.

TIA.

I used a bpiab with both my dc and it's great - big enough and really comfy.

Can't remember what I got for extras (if any), it was a few years ago now!

Thank you, was it easy to fill empty?

I had the mini one, and it had plenty of room for me (I'm 5'1" though!). Don't think I had any extras - just the liner and thermometer it came with.

Yes, although it did take a while - with ds2, who came very fast, I only had about 10 minutes in the pool once it was full!

I held on until it was, though, no way was I giving birth outside the water!

I had the mini one with all three DCs :) can't recommend them enough. You definitely need the electric pump to empty it as first time round DH had to 'bucket and chuck it' which was a bit unpleasant for the poor lamb Wink

I'm 5 footish so that's good news think i'm just going to order it. Will look into the pump too.

Have you seen the Aquaborn? Very similar and came with pump, all hoses and adaptors etc and was cheaper.

are you sure they'll take it back if you don't use it?

would you consider a 2nd hand one and a new liner? you might find one on ebay...

i had the bpiab but sadly neither DC born in it (one too slow, one too fast!)

Woops just bought the BPIAB , will hopefully be returning if i get a NHS one. Getting twitchy about going into labour and not having anything i need ( still need to sort out curtains and blinds since we decorated or the will be no HB or a lovely show for the neighbours Grin
