Hello,
Can anyone tell me how many people are allowed in the delivery room at King's?
I really want to have my DH and best friend there, but now my mum might come all the way from Portugal just to be there for the birth and I don't have the heart to tell any of them that they might not be allowed to be with me.

When I had my baby there in 2009 you were allowed only two people in the room. Not sure if its still the same now though.

Hello, yes it is 2 people max in the delivery room at Kings.

Thanks. This is going to be very awkward...

Do you want all those people there? I found two plenty (DH and midwife).

Definitely :)
My DH well, there's no questioning that and my friend is going to be my baby's godmother and is the person that has helped me the most throughout this pregnancy and has been my best friend ever since I've met her. As a Portuguese, the more the merrier!

Hi MiauMau, choosing who you want with you during this amazing and life changing experience is a very important issue. What you may like to consider is will they make you feel relaxed and will they help or hinder? Occasionally the 'helpers' bring in their own issues, albeit subconscioulsy, which can create an underlying tension and impact on your labour. Make sure that YOU are happy and comfortable with your choice and don't feel that you HAVE to have certain people to appease their feelings! You might like to consider having one of the three as the 'substitute' so that if one attendee wishes to take a break there is always someone to take their place.

KCH prefers only 2 people in the labour room but this is by no way rigid.

Good luck with your labour and birth!!

Kingscord Thanks :)
I would never feel obliged to have any of these loved ones with me (for some reason they are loved ones). For my DH to actually want to be there is amazing as before I got pregnant he always said that he would never want to be in a delivery room, he soon changed his tune once we found out about our baby without any need to force him, he's a very loving person and has been a great support during this pregnancy. My friend will be there, because I know that she'll be the best person to represent me and express my need to the MWs, also she will still be standing once my DH collapses :P
As bad as it may sound and as much as I would love to have her there, maybe my mum would be the odd one out. We are very close but, after so many years here I have learned not to need her. Am I being mean?
