Im 29 weeks now, with baby 3. You'd think I;d be OK with the labour thing by now... but Im not. I am seriously freaking out about it. My 2nd DD was less thsn 2.5 hours start to finish, immense, painful contractions from the word go, and I just remember the 'burning (searing)' pain when she crowned. Yelp.

So now I am working myself into a state. Im really not into meditation etc etc but am looking for anything that will calm me down, give me something to focus on.
I dont want to waste my money on a rubbish CD, can anyone recommend a good one? And tell me if there are any you'd stear clear of/regret buying? Thanks!!

I love my natal hypnotherapy CD - had dreadful birth with DC1 (6lb4) so bought the cd when pg with DC2 - then "lovely" birth with DC2 10lb10.5!!!! Just gas and air and the pool.
Am now 40+4 with DC3 and have been listening religiously to CD again. I'm definately not usually into hypnotherapy type stuff, but chose this particular CD after reading threads on here - wouldn't be without it!

I also used Natal Hynotherapy and I really enjoyed using it to prepare. It was my only bith so cant make a comparison but I had a 10lb 12oz-er at home with no pain relief. Im sure it had some influence on me being relaxed.

Good luck

PS I had that burning feeling that I havent forgotten either! :)

Another vote for natal hypnotherapy.

I went on the Hypnobirthing course where we got the CD and book - I am guessing Natal Hypno is the UK version. I had DD 4 weeks ago, no drugs. From my experience I totally believe you have to get doing the breathing, eyes closed and relax (then everything down below is not tense and Grin.

What about trying some aromatherapy oils too?

Another one for natal hypnotherapy! I used it in conjunction with aromatherapy oils too and was amazed I got pretty much the whole way on only gas and air and tens. While I did have to have a c section, the experience was very positive. I'm now pregnant with no. 2 and Will def be using the cds again

I listened to the CDs (by Maggie someone?) during pregnancy and have had 3 lovely home water births with no drugs, had a tens machine though, fancy a go at g+a so am going to try again with DC4 next year!
Definitely haven't done the whole hypno thing but the relaxation and letting your body do what it needs to have been great, or even just as a relaxation/sleep aid during pg. She also does an 'effective birth preparation which is more for you and yur partner to listen to together and work out verbal and physical 'cues' which trigger the relaxation feelings you got at home when practicing.
I bought a set of 4 CDs from ebay and it included the background music from her relaxing ones for listening to in labour, and a recovery one for afterwards which I've never listend to Blush
