CS scar - what did you put on it to help it heal well?

Hello
Has anyone had success with bio oil? Manuka dressings? Anything else? How soon do you start using these things on the scar after the op, and for how long?

I know I don't heal well from previous CS, also other operations, mole removal etc - and I'm booked in for my 2nd c section soon. Would love some tips as while my last CS scar was very flat & neat, it stayed red & tender for ages (still is really, 2.5 years on) and it's been uncomfortable to wear jeans.

Last time I used rosehip oil and probably stopped doing so too early as I was sick of it staining all my clothes. I was doing more to prevent infection eg tea tree oil & salt in bath but wish I'd done more to help the scar heal.

Thanks.

I left mine anyone both times. Healed brilliantly. Although the cut on my knee I got 4months ago is a horrid scarry mess so don't think I'm a great healer in general.

I used arnica tablets to help with bruising second time and my elcs was MUCH easier to recover from, with far less twinges, than my elcs.

HTH :)

Nothing, both times. No baths either.

The midwife suggested I use arnica tablets after my planned cs, it healed up really well, but that may have been luck.

5yrs + 3yrs post cs's (and 2yrs post hysterectomy in the same place) the scar is just a faint white line.

Nothing to start with both times. I did use bio oil once the wound had healed shut and my scar is pretty good now Smile

I didn't do anything with mine and I have been left with a raised, red scar (not sure if it's what's called keloid scarring as it's never been examined by a doctor). I have just found a product called Cica Care (on boots.com or chemistdirect.co.uk) which claims to treat scar tissue (would need to heal first though).

Arnica is good and bio oil, and got a tip about caster oil, which I've been using for 2 months (5 months post cs) and scar is really fading.

This could just be time though. Still twinged though.

Twinges twinges gah

Nothing to start with, then I got hold of some Bio Oil and used it from time to time. The scar's healed really well and is barely visible.

While I didn't have a csection, I did have a v large ovarian cyst removed in much the same way that you would have a c sec, i think! The scar is about 10cm across..

I used a vit e cream by a company called JASON. Left it to heal for a week and then used it twice a day and liberally. You can now only see the two ends of my scar..

Nothing either time - no infections and healed really well. No baths and exposed to fresh air as much as poss.

I was also told to leave mine well alone and don't fiddle about with it. I was specifically told to avoid oils and creams as they trap bacteria next to the skin/wound, not sure how accurate that is but MW said the only "lotion an potion" needed is warm water and a very mild soap.

I washed mine every morning and night with baby soap and water, patted it almost dry, and then let air-dry the rest of the way, I also left it exposed to the air as much as possible and avoided wearing anything that rubbed on it. I'm seven weeks on from my section and while my scar is still a little bit tender and pink in places it's nice and flat and soft to the touch, my GP commented at my six week check that it looked older than six weeks too.
