Induction this evening

Eeek - I'll be leaving for the hospital in a couple of hours as booked in for an induction at 5pm. Really scared and hoping that miraculously I'll be dilated enough that they can just skip the prostaglandins and break my waters straight away. I'm really really hoping for a quick delivery - dont want to spend all night alone in hospital in early labour but suspect not much will happen until tomorrow.

I have Obstetric Cholestasis so will have to be wired to monitor etc and not allowed water birth Sad. Just hoping everything is straightforward!

Does anyone have any stories of quick inductions without any drama!?

No story of quick induction. Mine took a few days but there were no dramas. All really straightforward.

Good luck, I found walking around as much as possible after pesseries helped with waters breaking.

Hello :)

I was induced with dd2 and it was quick, although there was a bit of drama...

Had pessary at 9.30am, waited for half an hour while I was monitored then went off with dh for a wander to the shop/coffee shop etc. Started getting cramps at 11ish, they got painful quite quickly so kept walking (seemed to help) and at 12 thought I'd better get back to the ward (seemed to remember the mw saying she wanted us back for lunch so she could check me over).

Contractions were very strong so asked for pain relief, mw examined me, said I was 5cm dilated so she sauntered off to get some g&a. Meanwhile I get the urge to push , dh panics and gets another mw to take a look. She lifts the sheet to look, looks at my face and yells "we need to get to the delivery suite NOW!"

No time for a wheelchair, they push the bed down the corridor, yelling "move, get out of the way!" (dh said later that there were a few oaps around that would have been flattened had they not moved...) and I made it to the delivery suite just in time.

dd was born around 2 hrs after 1st twinge, or 4 after the pessary. I prepared for the long haul with mags, snacks etc and didn't need any of them.

Never did get the gas & air...

I was induced 10 days ago and was pretty quick for me. They put the pessary thingy in at 10 and a couple of hours later I started having strong contractions. Had the epidural about 4pm I think and then dilation progressed quite rapidly. My daughter was born just after 10pm so about 12 hours in total which is not bad at all considering my cervix was closed to start with. I was quite apprehensive about the whole thing but it was much more positive than I expected. The contractions did come on very quickly and intensely though, they do say that is often the case with induction so be prepared (or maybe I'm just a wuss).

Congratulations on your new arrival! Your labour sounds very similar to mine, I needed an epidural too - the mwife said induction contractions actually are stronger and more painful. Enjoy the time with your new baby.

I'm booked for induction on Friday and worrying too... Were these first babies?
