It is my first baby and tommorrow I am 36 weeks. Apart from a bit of a blip at the beginning, the pregnancy has gone really smoothly. I have had no complications/problems. As I am overweight and 37 years old, I must say that literature etc led me to expect them.
If you have had a straight forward healthy pregnancy, is this indicative of a straight forward labour or is there no correlation? I would be interested to know. Also my mum had an easy time of it with me.

I had an easy, straightforward pregnancy with my first. I was fit and well and young. My Mum had two very easy pregnancies and deliveries. I had a horrifically traumatic time and emcs after a lot of intervention and a long labour.

There is NO way of knowing.

Agree there is NO way of knowing. I think everything will be much easier if you are relaxed and not worrying about it.

Putrifyno · 31/10/2011 18:37

I spent 2 weeks on the antenatal ward with unstable lie/polyhydramnious. There were new babies every day. Experiences were totally different - discussed over tea and toast in the morning - but whilst childbirth is not the most pleasant thing on earth, you DEAL with it. Honestly.

My mum had a horrendous time with me - I had an easy time with DD.

I had an easy pregnancy and easy birth but I'm sure people will come on and say they had lovely pregnancy and awful birth!

Agree, there is no way of knowing - luck of the draw I reckon!

addictediam · 31/10/2011 18:46

There's no coralation, its just the luck of the draw. With dd I had very complicated pg but very easy no real problem birth (apart from 3rd deg tear and hemmorage, I didn't realise either until Dr arived the next morning to check me over!) But this pg has been really easy and totally diffrent.

You will be fine and take it in your stride. Good luck

I'm pg with dc2 and at my booking in apt the mw asked me about last pg where I had lots of back/hip pain and an easy labour and she said that often back/hip pain is a sign that you will have an easier labour as it means you're carrying the baby quite deep in the pelvis which is better apparently.

No idea if she was right but I'm already getting bad back pain at 13wks so I hope she's right and I'll have an easy labour again as
compensation!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 31/10/2011 19:09

me too lindsell!

No idea, reckon it has no correlation - but enjoy the next few weeks of freedom and best of luck for labour and motherhood

If you are low risk, do your best to stay low risk. Mobilizing balanced with rest is the key. Don't go into hospital (if at all) until your contractions are 3:10. Bake cakes and decorate them, keep your mind occupied! Try not to be the centre of attention.

If you can book a homebirth or into Midwifery Led Unit then do, you can always move if it doesn't turn out to be the right place for you.

latrucha · 31/10/2011 19:23

I don;t think there's any way of knowing either.

IME, when I'm in labour I think there's no ffffing way I'm doing this again but the very next day I'd do it again at the drop of a hat. When I see labour threads on here, or One Born Every Minute I actually feel envious. Might be something to bear in mind.

fuzzyfeltfox · 31/10/2011 22:50

I had an almost identical labour to my mum's with me :( but my DS has the same shape head as me, and was fat big (9lb8).

I think a lot of it is luck though. I was unlucky- DS's waters broke at home with meconium in and my labour took ages to establish, they were worried about infection so I was induced, and so began the horror story. Wonder how it would have been different if he hadn't emptied his bowels, my birthplan went out of the window straight away!

I don't think there's much you can do other than try to relax and make the most of your final weeks- sleeeep! Grin Good luck x

It would be great, wouldn't it, if there was a way of knowing how things were likely to go. I had a horrible feeling I'd have a bad time - my mother had three caesarians - and I did have a horrendous time and my body never recovered properly (I got a fistula.) Which is why I think it is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful - that if you decide to take the route so popular with women doctors who are pregnant - of an elective caesarian - you now CAN. This is a massive advance. So welcome.

Not read thread, but mw told me it all depended in how baby was lying. If they were in a good position, labour would be fine; if not, you were buggered!
