Birthing centre - going in

Hi,

Just wanted people's advice as to what to do. Started contracting at 4:30 this morning - not especially strong, but quite regular. At 6:30 took a nice hot shower and then called the birthing centre. They told me not to come given I'm a first-timer and to take paracetamol.

Contractions were definitely slowed by the shower. Lost my mucus plug and bloody show since. At 9 the contractions picked up again, and then at 11 increased significantly in intensity. Called at 12:30, with 3 contractions in 10 mins, and they told me not to come in. I asked why not and when I should come in, and was told that my contractions don't sound regular enough and I shouldn't call again for another 2 hours at least. I did explain that I'm a 40minute drive from the hospital but this didn't seem to interest them at all.

Just wondering what your advice is and what you all think I should do?

Thanks.

I'm a big beliver in listening to your own body. If you feel like you should go, then do it.

Be prepared to be sent home though.

Good luck with it!

I'd go along and see what they say, they can't examine you over the phone. With my first, the contractions were never exactly the same time apart and never lasted the same length of time, but when I turned up I was 5cms. Good luck!

Hopefully you've gone in already, it makes me really cross when I hear about this kind of thing happening. I was also told not to go in, contractions not regular enough etc and ds arrived exactly 1 hour after that phone call!

Good luck and congratulations if I'm too late!
