What do you wear in a birthing pool?!

...After all I won't want to be naked for the whole time I'm in labour! Do you wear a swimming costume? The only one I currently fit is on loan from my sister! Or is big t-shirt you don't mind getting wet more suitable? Is there such a thing as birthing pool etiquette?!

And how many changes of clothes would you recommend taking with you? I have a couple of big night-shirts and my husband has many t-shirts I wouldn't mind getting messy, but what do you recommend do I take?

I had a maternity tankini type thing I was planning to wear but by the time I got in the pool I couldn't care less and just went in naked. If you don't want to be naked, I'd really just use old pants and a bra.

I stood in my costume (relatively cheap Mothercare one) in the living room last nite and DH snipped the crotch off for me!! In theory that's what I'm going to wear coz won't make me cold etc (and can't swim anymore) and I would prefer to have something on. I am prepared to end up naked though - seems to be the way it goes generally!!

Most women wear a bra or vest top but nothing on the bottom.

Oh, and meant to add...if you are in hospital dont get in until you are established 'cos by god, if your labour stops they will want you to get out and be augmented for slow progress!

Just a smile that all it was for me both times. The relief on getting into the water was immense.

SecondTime quick update. I've got my Anita bra and it is proper underwiring, I'm delighted! Will definitely get a soft one too for comfort (and happy to make more purchases once I know feeding is working for us) but just so pleased I don't need to go unsupported Grin

Hurrah!

I've never worn anything once I'm in the pool - 3 times now :)
