Coming up to 35 weeks and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for essential oils to use during labour and to help with healing. I have heard clary sage good for labour and lavender and tea tree to help with healing afterwards.

rose otto is recommended for the first six weeks. i used it and it was really lovely. whenever i felt weepy i rubbed it into my arms and legs and it totally sorted me out. it allegedly helps with milk production too - something to do with its sweetness

I agree with your lavender for afterwards - MW recommended a jug of water to pour downstairs while going to the loo at first to dilute the stingy effect of urine on stitches but I ciuldn't pour it where I needed it! So I used an old shampoo bottle of water with a few drops of lavender in it the second time - much nicer
Have also heard that clary sage is good for labour

clary sage for labour and rubbing on bump when over due (mixed with a base oil)

lavender 6 drops + tea tree 1 drop, mixed in a splash of milk then poured into bath to heal stitches.

I can't remember all of the names other than clary sage and lavender, but Neals Yard put together a custom made massage oil for labour for me. They were fab in the shop and pulled out all the suitable oils and let me choose which ones I liked and didn't like, and then made up the oil for me. I used the oil for the first time and went into labour just hours later lol!

Evening Primrose Oil for perineal massage (start 4 weeks before due date) to avoid tears. It can also help with cervical softening if you go overdue.

Neroli and Melissa are also good oils for labour and aftercare. Both are v.relaxing and help with nausea.

Lavender, Teatree, Mandarin, Neroli, Jasmine are all safe for use in pregnancy. Clary Sage should only be used after term or once labour starts. Avoid exposing oiled skin to direct sunlight if using citrus oils (bergamot, neroli, mandarin, lemon, lime) as blistering or skin discolouration can occur.

i second yorky on the lavender oil in water to wash down below, i did that after dd (i had a second degree tear) which healed super fast. i used lavender in a jug of warm water every time i went fe a wee and it felt sooo good i cannot tell you!

Also i think that was part of what enabled me to have sex by the second week after delivery.

Lavender reportedly heals without scarring....and of course is antiseptic and relaxing.....everything you want for after baby :)

i also heard that nutmeg is a strong analgesic (pain killer) and frankinscence.
but your also advised to go with whatever oils attract you (from the safe oils in pregnancy and labour of course)

thirding the lavender oil in a jug of water to pour over your bits when you wee,

a few drops of tea tree oil onto maternity pads also worked wonders
