When a baby is inside they have blood vessels to attach to the umbillical cord inside the TUMMY BUTTON

so what age do these blood vessels move away from tummy button?

Or are they always there?

Are they extra ones or not?

PLEASE someone must know the answer

THANKS

The vessels stay open for a little while after birth then close but always stay attached and I think get called a ligament of some sort (as nik tries to stretch her memory back several years....)

DTs were born very prem -- 27 weeks

And they had lines {drips etc} going into their tummy buttons while in the Neo Natal Unit

Just googled - the umbilical vein becomes the ligamentum teres and closes 3-5 days after birth usually. Hopefully you can sleep well now!!

Weird to think we have the remainders of those blood vessels still inside isn't it? Gives you a whole new appreciation of the humble tummy button.....
