Stitches one year on

I had a second degree tear after my ds was born almost a year ago, and stitches, which everyone was reluctant to do. In the end, it was the fourth person who decided he was capable of doing them, after three others had paraded around in front of my bits saying they didn't feel up to it! Thing is, even after a year, it's still a bit sore, mostly during intercourse, but sometimes just with contact. I'm guessing this isn't normal, but does anyone know why or what I should do?

Have you seen your doctor? If not you probabaly should. Great sympathy also having trouble with c-section stiches/scar xxxx

I think you should see your GP. I had a 3rd degree tear firsttime round and didn't have anything like that trouble.

Hi

I had big problems with my stitches - didnt heal till 7 months on. I would in your shoes definitely get checked by your doctor - I know it depends how good your GP is but it would be a good first step. Have you fully healed?

Hi, I had similar problems when my ds was born = I also had a second degree tear and pain afterwards. I went to my doctor and was basically told it was something I had to put up with. It was very depressing and I can't believe that there is no surgical solution to it.

Anyway, when I had dd1, I tore in exactly the same place and was stitched up again, and after that I had no pain at all.

I'm sure it can be fixed. A good friend of mine had pain from stitches months after and had them 'redone'. I'd definitely insist because it shouldn't go on hurting.

i had 2nd dgree tear after dd was born, was still sore after a year. Now (2 years on) im 26 wks pg and i still get an aching feeling, realy woried that i'm going to tear again.

RudiRedNose · 14/12/2005 20:40

Oh my! I never realised that this must have been the one good point (2 if you count dd of course!) about my traumatic labour. I had a 2nd degree tear but it just happened that my midwife is also the queen of sutchering so no pain afterwards! Can't believe it's such a lottery!
I know that the pain should not continue indefinitely and if your GP isn't helpful, ask if you can have a second opinion.

I had three third degree tears, internal and external, with my first baby and about 200 stitches - the whole patchwork gave way when I had my second baby (gross...I do apologise!!) I find that those areas are OK most of the time but during "that time of the month", or if I am ill, or if I do a lot of walking, I am distinctly swollen and sore, especially the perineum which swells up and goes inflamed and itchy, like it was when the stitches were first healing. My kids are three and 15 months now. I hope I haven't made anyone feel sick but thought my gory details might help

Mincepiedermama · 14/12/2005 20:53

About 15 months after the birth my friend went back to have her wound opened up and re-fashioned as she had been in pain and the scar was found to be too tight. She's fine now.

zippimistletoes · 14/12/2005 20:58

you can also get keloid scaring which can be cut out and hopefully precautions taken to make sure it doesn't recur..what does it look like

WhenAChildIsBored · 14/12/2005 21:02

You're worrying me now...I thought it was normal, just another bit of damage from having children!!

evansmummy · 15/12/2005 12:31

Thanks everyone for your replies. Even though some them were pretty worrying. Tbh, I haven't looked since the stitches dissolved, so don't really know what it looks like, but it is disticntly bumpier than it was before!! My GP is a bit pants, which is why i was really hoping it might go away by itself, but I guess I should just go and get it over with. If I could be restictched with no pain, that would be lovely.
