Midwife 'has a feeling' my baby is going to be early - anyone else had this and was it true?!

Had my 36 wk appt today and my midwife said, "I'll make an appointment for 38 weeks, but I don't think you'll make it. There's something about you that makes me think it will come early."

This will be DC2, DC1 was 2 days early...baby is measuring fine, in fact she said she thought it "wasn't big." No other signs of imminent arrival, but I kind of think she might be right and it won't go all the way to 40 weeks.

Has anyone else had their midwife make such a random prediction, and did it come true? Kind of hoping it will be a bit early TBH but not sure next week isn't a bit sooner than I had in mind!

My midwife said I'd be early, didn't think I'd make it to 38week appointement, but was still there and Angry . DS2 did come a bit early at 39+2 though

I had DS1 at 38+4, and so many people were telling me I'd be early tht by the time I got to 38 weeks I was already feeling well overdue. I would have been horrific if I'd actually gone overdue, there would definitely have been casualties!

So he was 8 days late in the end:)

Not sure midwifes intuition is upto much - she also examined me yesterday and said it would be ages still....born this morning!

Very much all forgiven now though :)

Congratualations on your baby

I had exactly the same conversation with my midwife at 37 weeks. DD was born 2 days later so she was spot on!

Don't believe it. My midwife told me for certain that I'd be in labour that evening and dd arrived three WEEKS later. Meanwhile dmil flies from America and sits around waiting with me for those weeks. DD came the day after she left to go back home. Needless to say, it was a LONG three weeks and I'd love for you to be spared the same trouble.

Haha. Have you reminded her of her 'feeling'?

daimbardiva · 26/09/2011 14:45

My mw said she thought I'd be early 3 WEEKS AGO and I am now one day LATE!!!! Aaaargh!!!!!

Congratulations on your baby!

I had the same from my MW with DD, who ended up being 4 days later. A friend went 10 days overdue with the world and his dog insisting she would never go to term. Very frustrating but no big deal in the long run.
