Burning when I wee post childbirth - any advice?

I gave birth last Sunday. I was at home and didn't tear at all. Felt okay at the beginning of the week but I'm now experiencing an agonising burning sensation when I pee. Could I have developed cystitis? Does anyone know if this is common post birth? Am finding it very hard to move around as am in quite a lot of pain. My midwives looked at me on Friday and assured me that I don't have an infection and that was looking in good shape. So why does it hurt so much? Is this just to be expected a week after giving birtth, regardless of not tearing. Please let me know

Thanks for this. I''ve just had a pee and found that if I stretched my legs wide across the toilet it hurt less. Does that point to or discount a uti? My midwives didn't seem to think it was an infection because it doesn't smell too bad. Sorry to be so graphic!

Hi ragtsaggle, like ks says some people swear by cranberry juice getting rid of cystitis, which it does sound like IMO.
Ask your midwife for advice on this and get an appt up the docs.
Also try dunking your bottom half in a bath of salty water.

You could be grazed, I've had this both times and it really stung, and I didn't tear. Wee in a bath, drink Lemon Barley Water (this changes the ph levels of urine) brew Comfrey leaves add hypercal tincture and soak a sanitary towel then sit on it....these worked for me.

BTW....congratulations!!!! what variety did you get??

Another one is to take a jug of warm water to the loo with you. When you wee pour the water over yourself as you do it. It can sooth the burning. Sounds more difficult than it actually is!

Disgusting, but I used to have to 'go' in a shallow bath of warm water (obv rinsed bath out afterwards !) in those first few weeks. Fairly undignified but I just couldn't go, otherwise. I found it was so painful that my body would automatically 'stop' me going.

ragtaggle - you may be suffering from stranguary (? spelling) of the bladder. Basically it is a result of the neck of the bladder being stretched during childbirth. I suffered after my second baby for a few days - it was absolutely excrutiating to pee but I did not have a UTI. It started about a week after the bith and disappeared as quickly as it came. HTH.

I would also recommend weeing in the bath. I tore but it was the graze that hurt the most. Weeing in the water helped to dilute the sting of the urine.

Thanks everyone. My midwife had a look and thought it was possibly a combination of thrush, grazing and possibly a UTI. I have been peeing with the shower head aimed at my crotch and have now started a course of anti-biotics. I am also drinking my body weight in water and cranberry juice. It's all so dignified isn't it?

I had a girl, pie. She's called Ruby and she's beautiful. (But I would say that wouldn't I?) I'll post on the childbirth announcements - haven't got round to it yet
