Haematoma following c-section. Any experiences?

Hi
I had my second c-section nine days ago and started feeling sore on one side earlier this week. It turns out that I have developed a haematoma and have a little infection. Doctor has given me antibiotics but suggested that it takes some time to for the haematoma to go away (as opposed to the alternative, blood gushing out of would scenario my midwife painted for me this morning- euch!).

Does anyone else have experience of this? What happened? Was the haematoma painful until it went away (I'm not sure whether my pain is due to this or general post-operative pain)? How long before you felt back to normal again?

Any experiences (however gory!) much appreciated. I'd like to know what I'm facing!
Thanks

After my c-section. I kept getting womb infections - turned out that they left a small piece of gauze in me. I did have a really bad time at the birth and I lost over 2.5 litres of blood and was not expected to survive the night. I woke the next day with bags of blood attached to my right arm, both feet and one in my crutch. DD is 6 and DP is only now talking about having another baby.

I had several small (about golf ball sized) and one larger (about tennis ball sized) haemotomas after me c-section. As I was in hospital anyway for a fortnight (twin reasons not c-section reasons) the consultant kept an eye on the haemotomas but wasn't worried about them. He just checked that they were free moving (ie he didn't think they were attached to the scar tissue or anything) and he sent me for a ultrasound scan when the large one got tennis ball sized, but that didn't really show anything. They eventually just went away on their own. I think it took about a week from appearing to disappearing. Mine weren't that painful, but then again I kept myself doped up on codeine/paracetamol/ibuprofen for a full fortnight after the section. Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully it will just reabsorb, that's what the GP expected to happen. I don't feel too bad at the moment (especailly considering it's infected) but guess this is going to make for a longer recovery (climbing the walls already, I just want to be out and about a bit!)

Hi Helz
I virtually started the same thread yesterday. I have also been told I have a hematoma. Terrible pain on right side of scar. My consultant also said it should go but after 2-3 weeks. I don't have an infection and my scar isn't oozing anything but I am really worried as after googling last night I saw people saying it lasts up to 6-8 weeks. I had an elcs and am really upset I have this. Feel like I've brought it upon myself and can't look after baby and family properly nowSad
I am interested to hear more stories with good outcomes where it just went away after a while instead of bursting etc
I hope yours clears up soon. Let me know how u get on x

I had a couple along my scar and a small infection. Had some ABs and both just went away after a few weeks without any further treatment and certainly by 6 weeks, I was all back to normal

Never google!

Thanks for the messages. Mine has got much smaller and drifted under the scar but there's no way it's going to make it through the scar as it's totally healed. I have a small bright red patch so still some infection. Yesterday I think it trapped a nerve as I had bad stabbibg pains when I moved :( Much better today though and although I can feel it, it doesn't really hurt. I don't dare say I'm on the mend though, in case it all goes tits up!

Best of luck Babylove. I had elcs too, but I'm reasoning it could have been worse, as after a vabac, I could have had one on my perineum!

Ha ha that made me laugh and put a smile on my otherwise wincing face!
Glad there are some positive stories on here of it going quickly.
Think I will go and see my GP to double check it's not got an infection (as it seems to be hurting more) and to get some more codeineGrin
Glad ure in the mend though hopefully I will be too. Hate not being able to look after my little bubs properly x

Just wanted to say I read this thread a week or so ago before my elcs, and now I've got a heamatoma too but I feel this thread helped me accept these things happen, so thank you for sharing your stories. I'm 2 days post elcs with nervy twinges and pain being the reason the MW and gp spotted it. Feeling sore but glad your stories ended well.
