I'm so fed up. 41+2 and they can't reach cervix for sweep :(

Went for one just now and they've booked me in for another on Sunday. Apparently as I'm long and narrow they can't even touch the cervix. Failing the second sweep on Sunday I have to go to hospital for an induction. The hospital has been listed as 3rd worst in the Country for MW:Patient care and I've also wasted £250 on a lovely birthing pool that it now looks as though I'll never get to use. Only last month I thought I was going to be able to use the lovely Birthing Centre literally at the top of my road. Some stupid man decided to shut it and now I have to go 30mins by car (more with traffic) to have what I can only see as being a fairly hellish birth. "Oh, if you end up in XX we can't guarantee you a dark or quiet room" said one of the Dr's last week. Great.

Please someone cheer me up. I feel like a failure on a time limit :(

Well, I really am grasping at straws now. Made a mental note (double meaning probably intended) that my voice kept breaking. Which got me thinking of all the hormones involved in the whole "cough n' drop" years of a boy's life and wondering if that was A SIGN! I think instead I am probably coming down with a sore throat.

Got to be around 2:30am and woke at 5ish starving hungry and again wondered if this was A SIGN!

FFS, I think I need more sleep!

Oh you poor love is a shag out of the question?

Best of luck love, I have an out of the way cervix too and nothing amazing happens until it really starts - and I have had 4

I really hope it starts soon

I do think it worth arguing about the dates thing though - if you know when you period was it is worth the scrap if you get to stay at home

Flisspaps · 30/07/2011 08:23

Orbinator If you don't want to be induced, you can request expectant management after 42 weeks - they can't MAKE you go in for induction if it isn't what you want.

If you're certain that your dates are correct, then work to those. However it is entirely possible to conceive during your period, so there is a chance their dates may be right.

Also, if you're stressed your body is less likely to go into labour naturally so the more you fret about a hospital birth (like I did) the more likely it is to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sadly no chance of a shag (single) but have actually considered buying that space hopper with dildo attached from LoveHoney. Thought it would double up as a birthing ball and sweeper in 1, see? It's probably a good thing they were Out Of Stock. Trying to explain that to the MW's could have been interesting...

Yes, I think I will push the dates as far as I can. Have to liaise with pool rental people for an extra few days too which is a bit of a PITA but better than the other option. Slightly worried the placenta won't be working as well, as obv that's what the check ups and monitoring are all for at the hospital. Could never forgive myself if it detached or something horrid.

It's the XP's b.day today so maybe she's waiting to make an appearance to make a point surprise him? Wink

Orbinator I think placental deterioration can start as early as 37 weeks in some women. (I've read up a LOT on going overdue as I went to 42+1 planning for homebirth and ended up agreeing to induction :()

This isn't to scare you and say that yours might have started to deteriorate then, but to show you that women aren't routinely induced or scanned at 36+6 in case the placenta starts to deteriorate at 37 weeks.

Orbinator · 30/07/2011 08:33

Yup - I've done a bit of reading on it too and didn't like the general theme that you just don't know.

Part of me would really relish something like a C-sec. I know that sounds completely at odds with the whole HB thing, but if I'm going to end up in a horrid hospital anyway and pumped full of god knows what and prob end up screaming for an epi, then why not go the whole hog and save my nethers and hours of unnecessary pain?

I think I do need more sleep...

Poor you!! I am still waiting too .. desperately hoping for something to happen today before induction tom morning. I also strangely wanted natural birth in pool etc and now faced with induction think why can't we just go straight to c section as might end up there after hours and hours of trying to induce and epidural etc Sad .. I don't know what else to try to get these babies moving!!?

Glad you know what I mean!
I was recommended this, but it's unfortunately out of stock :(
