I can't remember Confused

thisisyesterday · 27/07/2011 20:59

i did all of mine i think

Meglet · 27/07/2011 21:05

The nursery nurse did it both times (I had cs's). I was fine with it, and would have refused to move if they expected me to get up and do it.

iskra · 27/07/2011 21:07

Gosh, no idea. Definitely not me. Could have been DP or the midwife.

VitaEstBonus · 27/07/2011 21:13

No idea! Not me though

TeaOneSugar · 27/07/2011 21:14

I did, under DH's supervision.

PirateDinosaur · 27/07/2011 21:14

DH with all three of them (at least, definitely the last two because I remember; I just asked him about DS and he said "I don't know. I think so. I expect I did..." so clearly it is a treasured emotional memory for him... Grin

breatheslowly · 27/07/2011 21:14

I think that the MW helped DH to do it after being a bit disgusted that we hadn't dressed her already (she did have a nappy and blanket). She told DH not to worry and just handle her like a chicken. We have no idea if she meant alive, dead, raw or cooked.

nannyl · 27/07/2011 22:20

I will making sure its me (or if i cant for whatever reason OH)

I might let midwife supervise OH, because he will have never dressed a baby before, or i might well do it with him (if i can), but i want me / us to have everything to do with my babies care from the very beginning.

(Note to self, right that into my birth plan!!!!)

harrygracejessica · 28/07/2011 00:17

OH and midwife 1st time, special care with the twin girls and special care with one of my twin boys and we had to borrow an outfit from special care for the other as I forgot the hospital bag for them lol

susiesheep2 · 29/07/2011 10:11

notsuchayummymummy DD1 is 4 & 1/2, so it will be a combined effort with DP really :) but she is so excited, she has has the little pile of clothes ready in her draws for and I have strict instructions to wake her even its in the middle of the night.

It would mean a lot to me too, as no one remembers DD1 being dressed, MW's didnt mentioned it, just handed her back fully clothed, I was in a bit of a daze though after a 5 minute second stage!!

Cattleprod · 29/07/2011 10:15

The midwife and DP did it together. I chose the outfit though!

I was too busy collapsing in the shower!!

stegasaurus · 31/07/2011 16:54

DH and I did it together I think. We had a few hours skin to skin though when she had just a nappy on. DH put her first nappy on with a lot of supervision from the student midwife.

ShowOfHands · 31/07/2011 17:05

They whisked dd off as soon as she was born and brought her back half an hour later, clean, dressed in a hospital dress and hat. I was gutted.

Flisspaps · 31/07/2011 17:09

DH started off and the MW finished, he was being a bit delicate and couldn't get anything on her. He was horrified at how firm the midwife was with DD Grin

deemented · 31/07/2011 17:14

A lovely midwife dressed DS1 after he had died. She took him away to do his hand and footprints and then asked us if she should dress him. She put him in the smallest babygro they could find, but it was still miles too big for him.

DS2 wasn't dressed until he was about two weks old, and then it was just a preemie vest. His first babygro etc he was about six weeks old and it belonged to the hospital. The NICU nurse dressed him.

DD was dressed by her dad, under a midwifes guidence as i was taken away to be stiched up in theatre

DS3 was dressed by the midwife who delivered him - she even put his cloth nappy on, and woollen soaker - she said it was a first for her.

This time i might actually get to dress my child myself!!

dh with the help of mw as he'd never even held a newborn before dd was born. They did it while I was being stitched in the room.

Sugarkane · 01/08/2011 13:22

DD DP with my help I think.

DS I have no idea who but he had on a little hospital gown with split up the back and everything so cute.

littleducks · 01/08/2011 23:07

My mum dressed dd, so she must have stayed naked for a while bfing as we didnt call my parents till after dd was born. DH was too scared to hold her for ages in case she broke!

My mum laughed when she came after ds was born, dh was rushing around talking on a bluetooth headset with ds tucked under his arm at less than an hour old.....it had been an unplanned hb and dh had been talking to ambulance control on the headset, then a million people started phoning in a panic once they heard what had happened Confused

i have no idea with DS, i think it was combined effort by dh and the mw. i remember him weeing all over the paediatrician whilst getting checked over but not much else.

dd i assume the SCBU types dressed her, she wasnt dressed the first photos i saw but when they brought her to visit me she had SCBU issue sleepsuit on. think she first put her own clothes on on day 3, and i did that.
