Contractions in an OP labour - URGENT!

Hello,

Think I may be in labour with my first, was told earlier today that my baby is LOP, had a stretch and sweep - which was really good, got a bishops score of 5, have been bleeding lightly since (brown blood, not red) and have been having regular cramps and back pain all day.

This evening, the back pain is pretty severe, but there isnt much pain in my tummy - I'm pretty sure these are contractions, but i'm confused about how to time them as i have lingering back pain once the main surge has passed.

Do OP babies still give regular contractions? When should i be thinking about calling the midwives? I'm having a homebirth, so don't need to worry about rushing off anywhere.

My baby was OP and I didn't feel any contractions in my tummy for the whole labour it was all in my back. I think if you time them from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next one that is probably a useful measure. (Sorry I was induced so didn't really worry too much about timing as I was already in hospital but they were very regular and got closer together as labour progressed so similar to normal I think just in a different place) Good luck x

Oh meant to say, I'm not sure exactly how it works with homebirths but I don't think it would do any harm to give the midwife a call to give her a heads up on what is happening and she can probably advise you when to phone back.

I would say definately phone the midwife, they are on duty and would be able to give you advice. Try having a shower to relieve the back pain. Good luck and relax

I think call the midwife as everyone is different both of mine were OP and I felt contractions in my tummy.

DC2 was OP (born face up) and strangely I didn't really feel much pain in my back. But contractions were difficult to time as they were a bit random - certainly not the low-low-high-peak-high-low-low I has experienced with DC1.

If possible walk lots and spend time on all fours to encourage baby to turn AO - as I understand it, most babies will turn for the actual delivery (pesky DC2 was just awkward!).

give them a call - tell them so they can get someone out to you for an assessment if they think it is established labour

though if you can..try to get some sleep .
