My LO is just over a week old and just perfect but I am beginning to worry about the damage he did on the way out. I know that all the muscles have been stretched etc but when will I be able to stand for more than 10 minutes without feeling like everything is going to fall out?! I have been doing lots of pelvic floor exercises (with long periods of clenching when I do have to stand!). Please tell me it comes back quickly!

Congratulations on your baby!

A week is still so early. What kind of birth was it?

I started to feel normal again 2 weeks after the birth, and now - DD is one month old - am still taking my time but feel a world of difference to those first two weeks!

My tip is don't start doing things (housework, walks, etc) until you really need to, not the minute you feel better! Recovery can take a few steps back if you rush things. You have your LO for the rest of your life so no need to rush out for walks in the park etc! And do limit visitors so you can take each day at your and your baby's pace.

Enjoy!

Ummm, they say it takes 9 months to grow a baby, and 9 months for your body to recover. I would agree...sorry!!!

Take things easy!

Ah, that feeling of will the world fall out of there...

I had my first baby 14 weeks ago and I can honestly say I feel almost back to my normal self down there. I had a gas and air VB with a second degree tear, stitches and a graze.

There are residual effects obviously, my pelvic floor is not as strong as pre baby and I'm still heavier than I was but it's so much better so hang in there!

I too was petrified the first couple of weeks and thought I'd never recover but you will, keep doing the exercises and don't pressure yourself x

Lol cyclebump - 'hang in there'!!

Thank you for all the replies, glad to know that it mostly goes in the end, I guess I will just have to be a bit more patient.

Oops, didn't intend the pun!

It really does get better. I never thought I'd even be able to pee without it stinging ev again for the first two weeks!
