Need advice from midwife/anyone about my very bizarre contractions

I'm 9 days over with 2nd baby.

Had a sweep yesterday and was told I was 3cm.

Contractions started at 5am this morning.

If I stay still then they pretty much stop. If I move AT ALL then they really hurt.

If I'm moving they are about 8-12 mins apart.

What should I do? Having a HB and really don't want to call too early.

Sounds like you are in early/pre labour. When it is active labour the contractions wont stop when you sta still and will get progressivly stronger, more frequent and last longer. It could take a couple of days to get established or a couple of hours. Alternate moving to get things going (up and down stairs, Spinning babies, crawling round on all fours, fast circles on birthing ball, belly dancing) with rest and naps.
Keep eating and drinking!
Good luck,
Selina

you sound just like me it's a drag isn't it been going on for 5 days now It started with 24 hrs of frankly pathetic contractions every 10-15 mins then stopped completely and now i have them every hour or so (more the more i do) that are painful enough that i can't walk but aren't getting into any sort of pattern.

Planning on washing all the floors on my hands and knees this morning just having a cuppa first to get me going.

Good news is baby has moved from oblique to lying straight head down bum up so at least he's getting ready

Good luck with everything hope your little one arrives soon

sounds like an irritable uterus caused by the sweep. When you are in labour you will know about it!

If you are worried then speak to your midwife.

If you think it might be the real thing and you want to progress things along then go for a walk.... in labour the more you walk the more your contractions intensify and regulate but in false labour the 'contractions' die down the more you walk. If you dont want midwives to come too early then give them a call and explain what is going on and that you 'think' you might be in early labour and they will then give you a time to ring them back to let then know when to come over. Good luck and keep positive and energised.x

I was told that if I thought I was in labour then time contractions and give the hospital a call sooner rather than later, just so they could organise the CMWs in case of impending HB.

When I called, they acknowledged I wasn't in full blown labour and said as my MW was due to visit that morning anyway, she would assess situation and stay or leave as needed.

Hope it goes/has gone well.

Aw, so it was early labour. I love a happy ending!

BettyBum · 21/11/2011 20:20

Haha, indeed it was! Wish I could do it all again!! Any of you that have a birth imminent, enjoy every second and good luck!

Don't say that. I'm already broody and DD2 is only five months (and not sleeping. You'd think that would put me off!)

BettyBum · 21/11/2011 21:57

I know what you mean, I'm the same!
