Unbelievable! In labour midwife tells husband to leave 'visiting hours are over'

After everything I have recently been through see my thread '( So long as you've got your health..' I cannot forget that after being in labour, on the ward for 10 hours , my dh was told to leave as visiting hours were over! I'm clearly in pain and this woman insists that he leaves can you imagine? An obvious mix up on her part, but no apology given, anyone else had such a nasty midwife?

These stories are awful and I agree, we should complain more and make sure these women are disciplined for inappropriate behaviour. If it means they think twice before doing it again thne it's a good thing, Hmm, another good reason for home birth, it must be harder surely for midwives to be quite so rude when they're in your house.

I think there can be a flip side to visiting hours. I had DS on a Saturday night in a lovely new NHS hospital which was great (if a little busy and short staffed).

I woke up in the postnatal ward the following day at about 9 (DS still drowsy on Pethadine and I'd stayed awake 4 hours on the ward just gazing at him). I had the curtains round the bed open and had stripped down to disposable pants only because it was so damn hot. Thankfully I had a sheet around me because all the other women in there had about 10 visitors each (this is no exageration!) all of whom stayed several hours!

You're told never to leave the baby unattended but when your pad is overflowing and your DP is not around and you don't happen to have 10 family members/friends who want to spend all day on the post natal ward then you have to leave your baby in its cot with all these strangers around whilst you go for a pee!

Freddiecat - I agree too. My DH left at the end of visiting hours but the woman in the next bed was chatting to her DH for ages afterwards. having been in labour for most of the previous night I just wanted to say "go away and let me sleep".

And also with SueW. My bed was by the window which meant I had to walk past everyone else's bed to the loo. And with DS being born at 12.01 pm it was prime afternoon visiting when I had to do it.

Also got told off (like so many others) for bleeding - like I was doing it deliberately.
