Will hospital chuck me out or can I stay until bfind is established?

dd1 was born naturally and I was in over night but then very much told I could go home. It didn't occur to me to challenge this even though I hadn't managed to bf dd without assistance. In the end I wished I'd stayed a second night.

Now I'm 24w pg with twins and am having a cs at 37w (if they stay put that long). I saw the consultant on Thursday and he said they'd keep me in for 2 days after cs but then i can go home. If all goes well then that sounds fine but bfing 2 babies is quite daunting and even caring for 2 is a bit scary. Does anyone have experience of staying longer than 2 days after cs for thiese reasons? (Obviously I'm assuming babies are fine and not in SCBU).

op i would def seek advice (free from nct or lll) prior to birth. Mw's have very patchy bf knowledge, where as an nct bf councillor trains for three years!

Find someone with knowledge of bf twins and arrange for them to visit you a few hours post section (or when appropriate) in hosp and they can continue to support you over the phone and at home.

You could also start a thread in the feeding section asking specifically for BF advice with twins.

I don't have twins so can't advise specifically on b/feeding twins, but would say that just from looking at the responses so far on this thread it seems really clear that different hospitals vary hugely in the support they offer around b/feeding. When my first DC was born the hospital had 'talked the talk' - even saying we were having to wait in the delivery room for such a long time because they were 'waiting to establish a nice bay of b/feeding mums for mutual support' - but then I was stuck in a bay of 6, I was the only b/feeding mum and there was no support available at all, the midwives didn't want to know.
Sorry, that sounds ranty - actually it all worked out ok, fed first DC for 14 months and second one for 18 but have always felt that that was in spite of the hospital, rather than because of!

Can you prepare yourself to wait a while and see how it goes? - so try not to worry about being sent home earlier than you'd like, but if you feel unhappy at the time just politely refuse to leave for a while??

I've been to the mw today and she was really positive about my local hospital. She said the consultant's 2 days was simply from a clinical point of view and the minimum stay he would want. The ward is run by midwives and no-one will ask me to leave. I can stay as long as I need to and all mws there are trained to support bfing, including twins (especially as our town seems to have a high rate of twin pgs!). Feel a lot more supported and happier.
