I have had ir confirmed i need to have an ELCS for the birth of our 1st LO in 3 weeks time. I have read about taking big pants to avoid the scar catchinf but what about more support type underwear?
Ive read that normal support knickers arent quite what you need but there is a special bekt in mothercare ti help protect the scar etc or you can get proper post partum girdles which help support too. Has anyone got any recommendations?

I had an ELCS ten years ago. There was no such thing in my day or the country that DD was born in.
It sounds suspicously like a money making scheme to me. Ask your midwife if she would recommend one before you commit cash.

I had a ELCS in Asia and was given a girdle. I recovered staggeringly quickly and was moving about normally in hours/days.

But since I have no experience of without I cannot say if it helped or not.

I am skeptical it moves everything back -- I think that's genetics, luck etc. My friend used to swear by massage (very big in Asia) but can't see that working.

I will be using one again for this birth though. Apart from anything, it minimised the bulges and gave me some back support and lessened the chances of anything sharp catching on the wound.

Big cotton knickers are what you need.

Apparently support underwear will 'give you shape' but the pressure is not a good thing on the wound & your own muscles will not be encouraged to work.

I've had dreadful back problems and that combined with very weak pelvic floor led my physio to recommend that I wear a strong support girdle after my ELCS. She said it would minimise the risk of further damage to my back by helping support muscles etc during most fragile early weeks

You just want big, baggy knickers that will go up and over the incision. Nothing tight or too clingy. I had a c section 12 months ago and couldn't have imagined having anything tight or 'supportive' pushing up against my scar. Due to have another c section next week and will once again be wearing big ol' granny pants and super high waisted leggings that basically come up to under my boobs! - super flattering 😂
