Torn labia! Has anyone else had surgery for this?

My dd is 2yo and when she was born my labia tore. The mw stitched it immediately afterwards but the stitch (only one as it wasn't that bad apparently!) didn't hold anything in place and after a few weeks the tear had healed but I was left with my labia split in two! I didn't do anything about it because although cosmetically it doesn't look great, the tear was only minor and I just thought that i'd have to live with it like that.

Fast forward 2 years... And my ds was born 3 weeks ago. This time, the tear tore even more when he was born and now my labia is literally split from the top to the bottom. The mw told me that the previous mw should have given me more stitches and did a really bad job of making sure the tear wasn't properly sewn up! She offered for me to be restitched immediately after the birth by a consultant but it would now tAke over an hour. At the time I said no because after a long and exhausting birth, I just couldn't face it (wanted to just sleep and was still being sick etc). I wish I had said yes now!

Anyway, what I now need to do is get referred from my gp during my 6 week check and get surgery sorted out. Will I be able to get surgery for what is basically cosmetic work? Has anyone else had experience with Similar tearing? Has anyone else had surgery after the birth and if so, what can I expect?

Watching with interest. My Labia tore too (DS 9 months old now) and similarly to you, the stitches fell out/disolved before the bits had healed together so instead they have healed seperately. I've heard this sort of thing can cause issues with sex and just prove uncomfortable rubbing on clothes in which case you can get repair work done on NHS. Think I saw that on embrasseing bodies or similar programme on TV! I haven't investigated it as so far I don't think I'm having probs and it's only a small tear, though sex is still uncomfortable so I wonder if that is something to do with it. Guess you just have to ask the GP and see what they say.
