Hi

I'm 35 weeks and last night my waters went. Been told I'm booked in for an induction on Sunday at 8am. Have been given steroids and anti biotics but would love to hear your stories. X

This happened to me at 34 weeks. I stayed in hospital until I went into labour naturally at 35 weeks. It depends on your consultant (and you'd need to be induced before Sunday if you have any signs of infection... I hope they've told you that?)

If I were you I would be doing everything possible to get labour going naturally now. Walking up and down the stairs, and generally staying active. It often happens very quickly.

If it does come to an induction, then there are some things that really helped me in a subsequent induction. One is staying mobile. Do not let someone tell you that you have to lie down on the bed in order for the CFM equipment to work correctly. stay mobile (this meant ditching cfm and a mw holding a doppler to my abdomen for most of my labour). Also having a birth aprtner who can really advocate for you, and help relax you.

Agree with checkmate re moving around, HOWEVER- if they give you a gel, stay lying down for at least 1/2 hr afterwards, if you get up it'll dribble out!

My waters went at 37+2 but nothing happened, no contractions, nada. After several days of trying to get the labour going (I wanted a water birth at home originally) the hospital insisted I come in to be induced. Was induced with the gel about 3pm and again nothing happened!

But as checkmate says stay active. I walked up and down the stairs at the hospital for hours. Eventually the contractions started and 4 hours later (with no pain relief) DS was born. It was the most positive experience it could have been!! Wasn't what I wanted with being in hospital but it was amazing.

I kind of think that the experience is what YOU decide to make of it. If you keep positive, relax and stay in control of your birth then you will be fine!

well i had 2 water births, my 2nd being a home birth. No pain relief at all of any kind (didn't need it).

i was absolutely terrified of being induced for DC3 (waters went, no contractions).

I was given the gel. Nothing. I was hooked up to the drip. Nothing. The dose was increased. I was in labour for 1 hour 15 minutes and it was my absolute best and easiest birth. Amazing and magical. Again, no pain relief needed.

Mind over matter. You decide how it's going to be and get whatever you need with you to make that happen. I 'watched' familiar TV programs on my lap top. Every time a contraction came I just followed the outline of whoever was on the screen at the time with my eyes.

I think i had the labour that I would have had anyway....

p,s, i just spent the time lying on the bed. i didn't bother with all the walking around as i didn't want to wear myself out before i started and i had spd so every movement was painful anyway!

I did however labour sitting on a gym ball so I was upright with my forearms on the bed.

gravity is your friend.

I was induced at 38 wks due to high BP and leaking fluid - which put an end to my homebirth plans. I was given gel, 6 hrs later what was left of my waters were broken and I was in labour for nine hours. I mostly slept during this due to three nights of no sleep prior to this cause of a nasty viral infection thingy in my throat making things v uncomfortable. (I've just realised 15 months after the fact that I found it easier to sleep during labour than through a bad sore throat - hope its as easy second time!) 40 min pushing and DD arrived no problems. Wasn't what I had planned but I had three (yes - three!) birth plans which had really made me think about all the options so when one went out the window I didn't need to think/worry about what was going to happen instead.

This is a sort of positive one, most births are unpleasent, tiring and painfull (and sometimes scary). BUT they are usually over in a day or so AND you will end up with a lovely dc at the end of it. THis is the most important thing.
