after a ELCS? How is your tummy held together, or is it just left to flop???Confused Just thinking about all this stuff as cs approaches...

They stitch you back up and teach you how to cough and sneeze without aggravating the stitches. Honestly, you'd be surprised how neat and managable the wound is. It does feel a bit weird standing up straight afterwards but you don't need any help beyond listening to your body. I had a single running stitch through mine and it looks like this now. No support girdle necessary.

WidowWadman · 12/05/2011 07:36

I didn't get or need a support girdle - there was no flopping either. I'd recommend putting a maternity towel over the scar just to protect it from knicker elastics in the first few days.

I had staples and my scar looks similar to the one in the link above.

Thanks for that! Smile

It is actually quite neat!

No girdle here either, but they do advise that you hold the scar with a pillow or thick towel while coughing, sneezing etc to prevent pulling. The first couple of days are a little stiff and sore and you walk bent like an old lady but its not so bad

I also had a single running stitch and mine isn't even as obvious as SOH, you can barely see it

nunnie · 12/05/2011 10:14

No girdle and no flop. Just shown how to cough, sneezu, laugth.

nunnie · 12/05/2011 10:15

Mine was a blanket weave inside and glued outside so really neat, much neater than I expected to be honest.

buttonmoon78 · 12/05/2011 12:31

ShowofHands thank you for that. I'm possibly looking at a section this time and one of the big things for me is the scarring. Though why I don't know - I tend not to scar at all really!

But yours looks amazing!

ShowOfHands · 12/05/2011 19:30

That's not my scar! I just googled c section scars. Mines smaller than that if anything and so low down that it's actually well into the hairline ie you can't see it at all unless you're pressing your nose against it. Which tbh, very few people are.

buttonmoon, I had a bloody awful birth up to the point of the cs. The cs itself was an absolute breeze and the recovery easy. Any questions, any at all, ask away.

kickingking · 12/05/2011 19:34

No need for a girdle. There was no flopping about. The scar itself was very small and neat. Tummy huge at first, but not flopping over the scar or anything like that.

Jellyrollgumdrop · 12/05/2011 20:40

SHOWOFHANDS what about the overhang they all talk about? Im dreading the thought of it after, was 9st when I got pregnant am now 11st...all baby though!!

kickingking · 12/05/2011 21:27

I don't have an overhang!

Was just over seven stone (at five foot) pre-pregancy and was 9.5 stone just before baby was born. Had a big baby and looked like Mr Greedy from the side!

Seven weeks later was just over seven stone again.

buttonmoon78 · 12/05/2011 21:44

Grin at showofhands. If it gets confirmed I may well be back to ask questions!

If yours is even better than that then that's great! Must admit, I did think you were in a very sharing mood!

Chynah · 12/05/2011 22:23

No girdle. Mine looks very similar to the one on the link too. No overhang either. Was 9st before and 9st 11 last time i gave birth (2 ELCS) Also happy to answer any questions.

ShowOfHands · 13/05/2011 19:38

I don't have an overhang no, but I think it's the luck of the draw. It happens with vaginal deliveries too.

A 2 stone weight gain is normal.

When I share it's not actual pictures of my stomach. The world doesn't need to see that. Imagine a road map. Drawn by a child. CS scar's invisible though!

Thanks SOH Smile
