no amniotic fluid left at birth

I am currently pregnant with DC3. When DD2 was born, she had no fluid left at the birth. Directly after her birth I asked the midwife who delivered her when my waters had gone as I had not noticed it happening.

The midwife said that she was certain my waters were intact when she examined me, but she had not noticed them going and so there must have been only a very tiny/no fluid left. At the time she said there was nothing to worry about "as you have a healthy baby now".

But I am only thinking about this again now as I am pregnant again and wondering if it is likely to happen again. DD2 was born 2 weeks early too, so it wasn't like the fluid was low to her being overdue.

I probably need to ask my midwife about this, but just wondered if anyone else has had anything similar?

My waters never 'went' during either of my labours. I dont think this is v uncommon. The gush they always have on tv is quite misleading.

My midwife said it was evidence that the baby was in a good position for birth. having too much fluid is much more of a problem.

I queried leaking waters a few times in the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy. Was told several times its prob urine from baby pressing on bladder

Come to deliver, waters not gone so offered ARM. 15 mins later, DS has a scratch on his head as MW had trouble getting waters to break. DH said barely a trickle (I was too out of it on gas!)

It is possible that this is what happened to you, but that doesn't mean it will happen with this pregnancy. Discuss it with your MW, I'm sure she'll reassure you

darleneoconnor I just have to say that lots of women have huge amounts of liquor and lots do have big gushes, it is not misleading on telly! Grin

OP I would mention it to your midwife, she will no doubt refer you for a scan if you are measuring small, (this can be related to low amniotic fluid,) however she may not be able to refer you due to not having had much last time as all was well in the end.

I can't tell you if I had low fluid myself having had three waterbirths it is kind of difficult to tell! Wink
