Yep, my mum had 2 c secs - me and my brother then went on to have a pain relief free labour with my sister. And she was only in labour for 1 hour! I've had a c sec too and was told unless my next baby was breech ( DS was) I would have a vaginal birth.

I did it! Had ds2 (3rd baby) just 9 Wks ago. Was booked for section at 39 Wks but baby arrived v v quickly at 37+6 Wks and I actually delivered on operating table awaiting epidural for emerg section. Barring the obvious associated pain it has caused no probs at all. Recovery much quicker this time and I have no regrets about how it all worked out.

Have been trying to make this decision. There's a post below asking for help to decide. It's def possible, but I've been given very conflicting advice. Midwives say yes, Doctors say no!

As far as I know (cousin is a midwife) you will always be encouraged to have a vaginal birth unless there is a danger to either you or your baby. My DS was breech, no room to turn him so HAD to have a c sec.

I had a go with dd1 had had 2 previous sections the latest being 12 yrs earlier,i didnt manage it tho, baby got distressed. Dd2 born 12 wks ago was an elective section, they wouldnt even entertain a vbac.Good luck tho, hope you get it.

Depends on how your body is. I was told by the surgeon sewing me up after my second CS that I would have to have a CS if I wanted another baby as my pelvis is a funny shape.

im so glad to hear that its possible because the thought of having another section terrifies me as my last experience the spinal didnt work properly and i had to be put asleep mid-way through the operation, maybe third time lucky x

Can't find the right links at the moment but I'm sure I've read that the risks of VBAC after 2 sections are just the same as after only 1 section (i.e. pretty low). Whereas the risks of having a 3rd section are fairly significantly increased compared to having 2.

I was doing it this time last year. DS2 is one today. Was fantastic.

Much depends on the reasons for your previous sections. Get your notes and look through them with your midwife. If you can, speak to the Head of Midwifery at your hospital and gauge their support.

confuddledDOTcom · 07/05/2011 22:26

Of course it's possible, it's your body and your choice. The doctors/ MWs may try to dissuade you or even pitch it like it's not your choice but it always is. If you want to discuss it ring your hospital and ask to speak to a Supervisor of Midwives (I went through the birth centre because the reception number didn't know who to put me through to) and she will help you. She'll go through your notes with you and help you come up with a plan to facilitate your birth.

I'm about to speak to the SoM about my VBA2C with an inverse T scar! She said she can understand why they don't want me to but it's still something they should discuss with me and that my circumstances are unusual (I always go into premature labour so they can't avoid me having a Trial of Labour as they will make me go all the way before performing a crash section to avoid taking baby out sooner than they should) so it's something to talk about. A normal VBA2C is pretty straight forward, if there wasn't an underlying reason that will come up again.
