2nd pregnancy soon after c-section

My BF has just found out she is pregnant with her 2nd child. Her DD is 5mths old now and according to her (rather dodgy) calculations babe no 2 will be born approx 1 year after dd. She is very shocked but absolutely delighted as she has PCOS and it took 2 years and lots of intervention (drugs and hospital stuff) to conceive 1st time round. Obviously wasnt using contraception as thought no chance!! Question is really whether there is any likely complications re prev c-section and if can have natural birth this time, Anyone had a similar experience?

Most doctors ask you to leave six months+ before thinking of another pregnancy to allow the c-section to fully heal. She will need to get advise - you can have a natural birth after a section - but she would need to know if her scar is strong and well bonded!

I fell pg when ds1 (born by section) was 4 months old. The scar didn't cause me any complications and I had ds2 last week by vaginal delivery. I was booked in for an elective section but ds2 came 4 weeks early and I prgressed really well so decided to go for it and give vbac a go. The only downside is that they won't let you push for more than an hour so ds2 was born with the help of a ventouse. My boys are almost exactly 12 months apart.

sounds like it's okay then, esp if you have just been through it! many congrats! Unfortunately she has now lost the baby, what a rollercoaster of emotions it has been over the last week. Fortunately she is a really strong person and has a beautiful daughter already. lets face it there are man out there who are not blessed with any children. She's really philosophical about it.

The guidelines seem to vary from trust to trust on this. Some say less than a three year gap is alone reason to go for elective section, some say to try for VBAC no matter what the gap.

Personally after having my first by emergency section, I had no interest in attemptin a vbac. I knew what I was in for and I wanted an elective. However, your friend sounds as though she would like a vbac. She'll just need to book into the consultant and see what her hospital is willing to do. I think most these days encourage vbac so her chances are probably good.

What was the reason for the first section?
