Please help - pain 8 weeks after child birth

Hello!
I really hope that someone can help me. I had my baby 8 weeks ago. He was induced and I had a vontouse delivery and an episiotomy. The labour was horrendous but I didn't feel in too much discomfort for several days afterwards (I was just massively tearful and depressed (!), the physical side of things wasn't really registering!). About 5 weeks afterwards I started getting a shooting pain in the site of the episiotomy and went to the Nurse at my GPs, who took a swab and sent it off for analysis. The hospital confirmed I had an infection there as well as a UTI and prescribed 2 courses of antibiotics for 7 days. I spoke to the Nurse on the phone the day I finished the course and told her I didn't feel much better but she told me I had to wait another week for the antibiotics to really kick in. 6 days after that the episiotomy was bright red and swollen, and feels raised. My whole arse aches (sorry if TMI!) - I can't sit, stand, walk or even laugh without a shooting pain going through it. I went to A&E because it was a Bank Holiday and my local Labour suite wouldn't see me, because I've been signed off by the midwife, and a Dr examined me for the briefest of seconds and then said 'if' it's another infection then she'd get me some different antibiotics. Well, I have them, and I've been taking them for 3 days, and if anything I'm feeling worse.
PLEASE can anyone on here tell me if they've had the same thing? Is it normal to still be in this much discomfort 2 months after labour? I'm terrified that this just isn't going to go away and I'll never be able to have a normal sex life again, and it's preventing me from enjoying having any time with my son :-(

No, this is most definitely not normal! I was still in some discomfort for a couple of months, but no swelling or shooting pain. Go back to your GP (or try and see a different one if you feel he's not taking it seriously) and tell him to sort it out! I think you have to be quite forceful sometimes, as many doctors seem to think if they just wait long enough things will go away... I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you... I went back to the Nurse and she said it looks red and sore, but won't swab it until I've finished the antibiotics. I've actually started to feel a bit better, no more stabbing pain, it's just v tender to the touch which I imagine is pretty normal. Fingers crossed it's all OK soon... Never knew recovery could take this long or be this uncomfortable!

Take regular analgesia as well as your antibiotics (by that I do mean regular, not just when it starts to hurt). You can take paracetamol & ibuprofen which will help to reduce the swelling. There is a homeopathic remedy for episiotomy & related emotional feelings which is staphisagria and you can buy it online from weleda or amazon.
It will take a while to recover, and really 8 weeks isn't long depending on the episiotomy and delivery. Please do go back to the GP though if these antibiotics don't do the trick.
