33+3 waters broke advice please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

My waters broke on Wednesday morning, I went to the hospital to be checked straight away had an internal done and was told it was an infection and that they definatley had not gone and to go home!! Carried on leaking all Wednesday and Thursday then Friday morning decided to catch some of the water to try and prove that it was more than on infection. This worked and they agreed straight away that they had gone, I was admitted to hospital on Friday and had my steroid injections and started on antibiotics. Saturday afternoon I was let home but have to go back in on Monday for a scan and blood tests.

I'm 34 weeks today and still leaking a lot of fluid this is my 5 day of leaking. Does anyone have any idea what might happen to me, will they leave me to go naturally or do you think I will be induced. I'm panicking because everything I read states that I should have been induced by now BUT this is always for later breakages and I can't find anything about early breakages, I know the longer he is in there the better but I would just like to know what to expect.

Any help advice experiences would be really really great.

Nemo1977 · 06/11/2005 13:59

FB when this has happened to a couple of my friends, one at 34wks she was induced after 48hrs. Thats why i was surprised the hospital let you out as they usually induce to prevent infection.

expatinscotland · 06/11/2005 14:00

I agree, Nemo. I think I'd start hooting and hollering right about now.

stitch · 06/11/2005 14:00

the thing is, the longer they leave baby to 'cook' the better its chances of survival. sometimes the bag heals itself. sometimes it is the hind waters that have broken, so baby isnt in the dry so to speak. im not a midwife, but have managed to have a crisis at this stage of pregnancy in all three pregnancies.
all i can say is, if you are as concerned as you seem, then go to the maternity ward, and get someone to liten to your concerns, and give you a clear answer.
is baby moving around as much as before?

flutterbee · 06/11/2005 14:13

I haven't really felt him move today so I am giving it till DH comes home and then will re-asses the situation with him. I suppose I'm just a bit shocked at how little information I have been given by the hospital. If we decide not to go in tonight I shall make sure when I go tomorrow that I am given all the information I need.

When will your dh be home? I would be inclined to go to the maternity unit today and insist on a scan and someone to talk you through what is going to happen - it would put your mind at rest a bit more.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/11/2005 14:15

I know one woman whose water always broke really early with both pregnancies, and she was allowed to go to term, or thereabouts.

It does make a difference if it's hindwaters or forewaters. The waters do replenish themselves naturally, so the baby isn't dry.

flutterbee · 06/11/2005 14:19

I just spoke to DH and we have agreed that I am to drink a large cold lemonade, eat a Mars bar and lie down for 1 hour, he said if I have still felt nothing then he is coming home to take me to hospital.

Thanks for all the help ladies I shall let you know how things go on.

This happened to me at 33 weeks. I was told that if I had an infection they would deliver ds but fortunately I didn't have an infection at that time. I was also told that I would have to stay in hospital until the birth unless I promised to take it really easy. My waters continued leaking and bythe time I was 36 weeks my weekly scan showed that I had virtually no lycal fluids left. Eventually ds was delivered at 37 weeks as I had another leak but this time I had also picked up an infection. They will not induce you unless you pick up an infection.

Are you having weekly appointments with your consultant? When this happened to me the hospital seemed to take it really seriously. Every time I had a leak I would telephone the maternity ward and was always told to come straight in for a check up.

PeachyClair · 06/11/2005 15:17

If baby not moving much, I would call MW anyway: logic dictates it's better to gets baby help before he completely stops moving. Especially as you are having other probs anyway, so you are more at risk.

vickiyumyum · 06/11/2005 15:22

have you been scanned? they often do scans to determine if baby still has enough water around it. i suspect that if you go in with reduced movements they will scan you anyway justt to check you over.

hope all goes well.

anyone able to call flutterbee in rl? hope she is ok.
please let us kbow fb.

mamotchka · 06/11/2005 20:24

Legally, they are on extremely dodgy ground if they fob you off with symptoms like these. I am a medical neg lawyer and virtually camped out at my hospital with various pregnancy concerns. All well now, but I was very pushy when I was pregnant as I was so concerned. I think I went to hospital 12 times fretting about leaking and movements - I knew I was being a pain but I was too worried not to have it checked out.

Any other MNers in this situation should not be afraid to go to the Day assessment unit and demand to see a MW / Dr for a chat through your concerns and scan to put your mind at rest. If DAU shut, go to labour ward.

Flutterbee, I am hoping all is well with you and your baby. Hoping to hear from you on the thread soon. Take care. X

I am so so sorry to all the people who posted on here and were waiting for a reply, as Nemo said I was told I was going to be induced, but I went into natural labour and had a beautiful baby boy on 11/11/05 George Nicholas Nii-Koi.

Thank-you for all the concern about me and the little one and just for your info they didn't believe me when I went into labour and wanted to send me home but said they would keep me in because of the waters having gone, they kept telling me it was just pg niggles (stupid maching not picking ip contractions and internal done but could see no change) It wasn't until a lovely mw put her hand on my tummy when I got the pain that they believed me.

Thank-you again and sorry for ignoring you all my mind is a haze

carlychristmas · 07/12/2005 22:36
