Stupid worry but where did your waters break ????

I know it's daft but I have this irrational fear of them exploding in Boots .
I had my waters manually ruptured with dd (do not want to repeat this), but lately feel as though this bub will punch them out soon, and as I'm currently 40+2 believe they'll go soon.
So who has the most embarassing story ???

Not me Angelmother, the only child I had that waters broke naturally was the last one and that was just before I gave birth.

bunny2 · 25/09/2003 20:44

I dont, mine went in bed. But, and this is a big but, I have heard that if you go into labour in Marks and Spencers, you get loads of free clothes and stuff. Maybe Boots will do the same, imagine, free makeup for life (or incontinence pads, nurofen, piles oitment ).

misdee · 25/09/2003 20:44

not emabressing at all. first broke whilst in bed. 2nd broke 10mins before i delivered. i remember my nice wooly socks getting wet and the midwife going 'there goes the waters' hehe.

pupuce · 25/09/2003 20:46

During labour for both of mine.

ANGELMOTHER · 25/09/2003 20:47

Wow bunny I'm off to M&S tomorrow, I've spotted a few nice shirts already.
Did the bed get ruined Misdee ???

nah, it was just a trickle, the 2nd lot were a flood tho, i heard a loud pop and a torrent of water lol.

ANGELMOTHER · 25/09/2003 20:53

I'm worried about the bed too, new mattress

First time was like a river bursting a dam while on the loo. Second was while at my sister's house for Christmas, sitting in her kitchen, though only a trickle. Third one I was in bed, felt a sharp kick then my waters leaking, and the fourth I was induced with.

lou33 · 25/09/2003 20:56

Angelmother I used to put a shower curtain between the sheets and the mattress.

ANGELMOTHER · 25/09/2003 21:02

Lou that sounds like a good idea, I'm off to try it now, I have an old one and am feeling quite twingey (prob fooling myself) so am off to sleep on a shower curtain

My ds1 was born with the sac intact, supposed to be really lucky especially if you're a superstitious sailor! Other two broke during labour. But I wa always scared of this happening too!

bobthebaby · 25/09/2003 21:09

Felt the need to pee at 3am (having just been) almost got to the loo before they hit the floor (thankfully not carpet)I wish I'd bought some Poise pads as I just kept leaking all morning, if I hadn't needed them I could have taken them back for a refund.
Another top tip, I used to work for an insurance company, and if your waters ruin something (car seat, bed etc.) and you can face filling in the "tell us exactly what happened" part of the form you should get it cleaned or replaced. I think amniotic fluid rots stuff, so worth knowing.

Pimpernel · 25/09/2003 21:14

Mine went in bed when I was in labour (had a waterproof mattress protector on luckily). I took a cushion with me when I went out for a curry when I was a week overdue - not quite sure what I thought the cushion was going to do, but it made me feel better!

EmmaTMG · 25/09/2003 21:17

Another non embarassing few tales.....
1st DS1 on the hospital bed while in labour.
2nd sitting on the loo while in labour.
3rd and very recent one as you know AngelM, in bed with a tiny pop and trickle about 3 hours before labour really kicked off.

BTW, I've heard that about M&S too. Fingers crossed that the twingeness continues.

lou33 · 25/09/2003 21:18

Good luck Angelmother.

yoko · 25/09/2003 21:27

mine really did go pop,and then gushed all over my poor cats head(i was standing up,he was rubbing against my ankles)!!

SofiaAmes · 25/09/2003 22:43

Mine were manually ruptured in both labors when I was almost fully dialated. At least if they explode in Boots, you won't have to clean it up..

bobthebaby · 25/09/2003 23:17

I put the waterproof thing from ds's cot between sheets and mattress. Figured if I expected him to sleep on it it must be okay. Shower curtain sounds very hot and sticky.

sunchowder · 26/09/2003 03:04

No embarrassing story here, I think I told this in another threadmy water broken in middle of the night while I was sleeping, no popping or anythingjust trickle, trickle and I work up in a small puddle. I walked around with a pillow between my legs for the next 6 hours waiting for serious contractions which never came..started to get nervous so I had my husband take me to the hospital. I was never worrried about my water breaking, I was obessed about taking a huge crap on the floor in front of everyone while I was pushing during labor--thank goodness that didn't happen! Good Luck Angelmother

mothernature · 26/09/2003 08:51

My first in hospital about an hour before actual birth of No 1. Second when at No1's Godparent's house on their new sofa..., (Had to get ambulance as multibirth), this continued in the ambulance all I could say was Sorry, ooh... I am sorry, amubulance driver and mate very nice about whole thing made me feel as though it was natural to pee over the floor causing major flood, New river now in area where I live......only joking, it just felt like that at the time.

waterbaby · 26/09/2003 08:57

Like mothernatures first one, mine happened in hospital - only a few minutes before the birth. I didn't notice at all as we had a waterbirth, and I was already in the tub (or mini-skip) by then, but was flabbergasted that they could hold until so close to the time.

Azure · 26/09/2003 09:01

I also dreaded my waters breaking in public. They started to trickle in bed at around midnight, after I had started having some mild contractions. The heavy contractions started soon afterwards and DS was born approaching 8pm. As it was a constant trickle throughout my labour, it was easier to wear nothing below my waist (apart from socks and during the journey into hospital), which I was initially mortified at. Hey, soon lost any pretence of modesty. I had also put a cot mattress protector sheet beneath the sheet on my bed, just in case.

WSM · 26/09/2003 09:16

No embarassment here either. I woke up at 11.30pm, stumbled to the ensuite loo and my waters broke in the 5ft walk from bedside to loo ! DD was born 3 hours & 1 minute later. I'm glad they didn't go on the matress though as I was a gusher rather than a trickler !

ANGELMOTHER · 26/09/2003 09:22

Thanks for the best wishes everyone, yep still here. I was convinced last night something was going to happen, however had a good nights sleep.
My favourite story so far has to be Yoko, on the cats head is the best esp considering how much cats hate water, then again mothernature on someone's new couch Oooouch!
Did anyone wear those tena lady pads in the run up till the end. I have them but can't bring myself to start wearing the blighters yet, there'll be plenty of time for that yet.
Oh I'm going to M&S today well you never know....
