Piles - obviously TMI!

I gave birth 5 days ago & I think the piles are getting better, not worse Sad. It's probably not helped by me sitting up half the night holding the baby so she'll sleep!

MW said to give it a week, but if they are still bad then the maternity Physio should be able to do something (no idea what?!)

So, in the meantime what can i do that will actually work? I'm drinking loads of water & eating lots of fibre, so actually pooing isn't a problem. It's just getting more & more uncomfortable to sit down & move about.

I got some Anusol cream from the GP when I was pg, I've been applying it a few times a day, but wondered about putting a load on some cotton wool & wedging it in my bum crack?! Hmm

Does an ice-pack really work? I've tried it a couple of times but it didn't really make much difference.

How about pads soaked in witch hazel? Or those rubber ring seats?

Oh, the glamour of motherhood!

Witch hazel is supposed to be good.

Anusol suppositories are excellent too. You put one in at night before bed and one after each bowel movement. No such thing as tmi btw. They're horrid, miserable things and just so, so common.

D'uh I meant to say they were getting "worse not better"

Thanks for info on suppositories turtles, do you know if they, or any of these actually help get rid of them or just relieve the pain?

They help to get rid of them by doing several things. Drying them out, healing them and er other good stuff. Plus they keep them in check while your body does its job of returning the area to normal functioning.

Are the piles internal or external?

Hi I think the suppositories will shrink the piles as well as make you feel more comfortable. The fluids and fibre are a good idea too. Try doing pelvic floor exercises and RELAX! Give yourself time you only had a baby 5 days ago. all the best!

George26 · 26/04/2011 23:24

External. I think it's the internal one I got giving birth to DC1 2 years ago. It went away by itself, just flaring up a couple of times a year until I got pg again when it popped out Sad

Thanks for the info, will pop to see the chemist tomorrow. I know it's been less than a week, but I didn't want to leave it until the weekend when everywhere is closed!!

Call your GP and get them to prescribe either scheriproct and/or proctosedyl they both have steroids in I think and therefore work much better than the over the counter ones. Pretty sure they also contain local anaesthetic too. I hope they get better soon!

lia66 · 27/04/2011 16:59

proctosedyl is what I was prescribed over the phone by my gp 4 days after giving birth recently. I had supposetories and external cream. I have to say it still took a week for me to be able to walk properly, sit down as opposed to lying on my side, and driving.

Please don't suffer in silence, it's so painful, I was in tears but 3 wks on am fully recovered. This medication is ok for breast feeding too.

Congrats on new baby. :)
