GBS management during labour

Hi there,
I am on my third pregnancy and have tested positive the first two times. I bet I shall need treatment this time too and am just wondering whether the NHS now offer the quick shot of antibiotics rather than the slow drip?

My first baby born in the UK and the 2nd in Dubai. in the UK I was hooked up to a silly drip and made to lie on a bed which made it impossible for me to move about. 2nd baby I was given the antibiotics in a quick shot in the arm and then was free to move around. 1st labour 14 hours and loads of intervention. 2nd 4 hours from 1st contraction to baby popping out - easy peasy. Am now going to be in UK for third one and am petrified that I will be strapped to a bed with a drip.
Anyone been through this recently?
thx

I would check the GBS Support site. I'm pretty sure I read that the injections aren't as effective. Confused

You can always insist on getting up and moving around with your drip. I did rounds of the ward pushing my fluids drip.

In the hospital in which I work - we use a drip for the first dose, goes through in about 15-30 mins and you can still stay upright and mobilize as you want. Given this way because its a large loading dose. Next doses are smaller and given as an injection into the cannula, over a couple of minutes.

Cant say if its the same everywhere but having a drip is no reason to be stuck in bed imo.

I gave birth last week and was given the anti-b's in the exact same way as mintpurple describes. I was able to push the drip around as and when I wanted for the initial dose and the remainder I was oblivious to as was too busy concentrating on getting through the contractions!

thanks for the replies. well if it's only 30 mins of being hooked up I suppose I can bear it! that first time round they just seemed to replenish the bags one after another which made it impossible. I guess I should be worried more about whether I even get the chance to have any antibiotics at all as I may go even faster this time round. x
