Had my birth option discussion yesterday due to previous VB with failed 3rd stage and EMCS due to brow presentation. Think I am going to give VBAC a go.

But the Consultant mentioned the possibility that the option may well be taken away from me as the pregnancy progresses due to risk etc. One of them she mentioned was placenta accreta. I had a retained placenta which was attatched to scar tissue from endometreosis but it wasn't accreta.
Others were the usual scar pain or issues and signs of strain on scar.

Anyway didn't really think anything of it, just presumed it would be similar situation to retained placenta I had with DD, but after google it appears to be a whole different ball game and I am now a wee bit out of my depth. I won't know till me 20 week scan in 2 weeks where my placenta is, so this is worry that is probably not necessary but it's too late now I have googled and pooped.

I know I have a slightly higher risk of this sue to the stupid gap I have left and a nice fresh scar. But I think it is still a low low risk, so this should be enough for me to walk away and not think about it, but I am weak.

Hi there

I have just been through something similar, placenta accreta was identified as a possibility at my 13 week scan, couldnt be ruled out at 20 weeks and I had another detailed scan with my consultant at 28 weeks and he (thankfully) said that he really didnt think it would be an issue, but cant absolutely rule it out. I read all the stuff about morbid adherance/ hysterectomy etc and was so scared, but he said that those are the extreme cases and often it can be dealt with surgically but not leading to a hysterectomy. We have agree that Im having a normal birth, in the midwife led unit, but with the precaution of being set up with a drip/canular so that if things do go wrong and the placenta does not readily detach, I am all set up to go into theatre.

I had a home birth with my son so this is a scary/different experience for me.

Its a scary prospect, I was really worried, but please try not to worry because it is really rare, and the important thing is that they have found it as a possibility - much more stressful if its discovered when your placenta doesnt deliver!

I'm sorry, I have absolutely nothing helpful to add. However I do think you deserve a medal for the phrase 'googled and pooped'. Brilliant Grin

I can't help sorry, I am still in the same position I was when I wrote this well I am further into it slightly. My 20 week scan has shown low lying placenta possible previa, which also means increased risk of accreta, but I haven't seen anyone apart from the sonographer, so not sure really what happens in regards to delivery etc, if it is confirmed or no change on my next scan at 34 weeks.

Hi Nunnie, I really hope that you are OK and dont have accreta, but I think you should ask your midwife for a consultant appointment at 34 weeks if you have not seen anyone but your sonographer yet.

you obviously havent ad any bleeding then nunnie? I have started bleeding this week, im 17 weeks & looks like its all down to previa
